Look like something is being built at Colwood Corners in teh lot that has been for sale . The site of the previous  Shell Gas Station

Shell Gas? Can someone streetview the spot?

The shell Gas station awas a full service station from the late 60s until the early 90s.

The mechanic bays later became a carwash.

This is going back to when the IGA was right next door close to the road...later Highway Super Market was built behind IGA which was later torn down. When Highway was gone Thriftys moved in.

 

The Shell station site has been dormant for about 20 years after it was torn down it was found that the leaking tanks had leached fuel down the road to the Garden Nursery store and to the Magnolia restraunt which later became Whitespot

 

I suppose that after 20 years of the tanks being pulled out of the ground the remaining contaminated soil got better

 

Before Shell was therer I think the site was a BA station.

 

The Colwood strip had lots of service stations including one where the Wendys is now that exploded and had flames shooting across the island highway from the flaming gas pumps (1973)

Here is an updated shot from this evening.

I noticed a strange fact about this building.

 

All of the windows in the units are north facing and  west facing.

 

The people wont be getting much for sunlight in their units

Construction on Village Walk East next door to the complted Village Walk west has started on Hockley Av in Langford off Peatt Rd

Criticize Victoria's NIMBYs all you want, but I think we generally end up with higher quality, better looking buildings than the run of the mill stuff going up in Langford.  IMO.

no problem with the setbacks there. a big imposing mass wouldn't look right.
