Can you swing by at your end-of-day and see if they have finished it off?

Can do. I should be walking right past later this afternoon.

Great photos VHF. I sure hope this doesn't just become a parking lot - at least not for more than a year.

Whatever does become of it there will probably be an environmental assessment done of the property. they will probably do test wells looking for hydrocarbons as this used to be a gas station. Its anyone's guess as to whether the fuel tanks are still in the ground and its also anyone's guess as to how extensive any hydrocarbon contamination is including how far down the street it has leached and in to the area roads and neighboring properties

Test wells are in place now, including some extending well out onto City property.

^I noticed that, and that the wells were outside the hippie grocery, which puts them closer to the drycleaner's property than the gas station's lot.

Nothing new when oils leak they don't stay within the properties.

The Shell Station whcich had a car wash and mechanic bays that used to be at colwood corners leaked all the way down to the magnolia garden restaurant which is now dennys

Can do. I should be walking right past later this afternoon.

About half of the remaining structure still needs to come down as of about 30 minutes ago.

True. Perhaps one of the moderators could move the relevant posts; maybe here: http://vibrantvictor...read/?hl=thread

Does anyone know what that  "tallish" structure is in the background?

1964.jpg

I assume it was it replaced by this 2-storey building some time after 1964.

Another case of the shortening of the Victoria skyline over time?

It's the medical building the nice old part that was destroyed a few years later when they tore the back wall off of it to join the Richard Blanchard building to it

AKA the "Pandora Wing" of the Ministry of Health. Are you sure that is what this is? The building in the above photo seems to be at the corner of Pandora & Quadra, not Blanshard at Quadra. Standing at that same location on Johnson Street today that section of the MoH is not visible.

BTW if you are ever in the MoH there are some great photos of the construction of the "Pandora Wing" (originally the BC Electric Building, 1954)
