Looks like this is the only thread on the project so I'll re-jig the title.

Thanks for bringing this up, btw.

I am hardly a fan of the Colwood strip, but I see this project as a step in the right direction. I suspect the developer (although this is not mentioned in the article), hopes that a potentially expanded casino, just down the road in View Royal, will also generate business for his hotel.

BTW, is it just my feeling, or is the border between these two municipalities along this strip of road seem entirely arbitrary? I never know where View Royal ends and Colwood starts.

why only 4 stories, when there's going to be all those buildings at colwood corners, and silkwind just across the goose?

there was probably a time when it didn't look so arbitrary. maybe it was some old-time settler's property line?

A hotel to grab Casino business might make sense if people travelled to Victoria to gamble.

Any time I have looked it appears as though the crowd has been nearly all locals.

This picture is a perfect example of why amalgamation should happen sooner rather than later. 3 municipalities in such a tiny area. Yes I know we are not seeing all of each, but seriously, how many people live in the combined west shore and they need 4 governments? Bring these 4 communities together now. At the very least, re-draw the boundaries. Do away with View Royal altogether. I'd like to see an Esquimalt-Colford boundary to start. My preference for a Victoria-West Shore boundary is well known.

Thanks.

I'm surprised to see a tower crane used on a four-storey project.

It is a little surprising to see a Tower Crane up on a 4 story site, especially a crane this big, normally on smaller projects like this you'd expect to see permenant mobiles or Self-Erecting remote controlled cranes such as they have the Selkirk (to complement Lark's Tower and Campbell's Tower)...or smaller 4-6 storey wood frame Condo's. Although this project is longer in size than most mobile's or self erectors would be able to handle therefore in an effort to decrease costs associated with lifting on a site a crane of this size would be used. As a point of interest, (if anyone other than me cares!) The crane at Liquidation World is the same crane that was up at Swallows Landing. It was taken down, with the regular inspections done and then placed at this site almost immediately afterwards.

The crane came down a while ago now for those that didn't know...I was on the Lee Valley Website and it looks like they plan on opening the store located here on April 13th! An exciting day for all of us wood afficinados!

I'd say you can move this project into the Stalled category. Since the retail units opened there has been no action on this site. There are forms piled up, a decrepit zoomboom and a few odds and ends but no action

Has construction actually started and stalled on phase II?

I don't believe so in actual fact. If thats the case this should be split off into separate threads phases because I assure you there is certainly no construction of any form going on there right now, nor has been since the Spring when the Tower Crane came down. There is rebar columns sticking up from the underground parking, piles of core and column forms sitting about. All in all this project phase 1 being completed, phase 2 and 3 are stalled right out

Legacy at Westridge Landing is the next phase of this project and includes 63 units across four floors above a retail ground floor.

Also planned is an 80 room hotel to the east of Legacy. Construction may start in 2014.
