I noticed today that around the former car lot at the corner of Johnson & Quadra the trees have been "wrapped" in the same orange protection mesh that surrounds the trees on Pandora adjacent to the bike lane project.
Since I have not heard that bikesteria have commandeered any of the vehicles lanes along Quadra, I am wondering if some sort of demolition work is going to take place at this site. "For Lease" signs still appear in some of the windows on the Quadra Street frontage.
Ya, the interior has been gutted. It's all down to studs inside.
This building is starting to come down today. Excavator on site has already made its way through a large chunk of the north end of the building.

Any further word if redevelopment plans of the Johnson & Quadra site will be forthcoming?

My guess is it'll become parking.

Perhaps not for the long term....

I will never endorse the addition of surface parking lots where structures previously existed. It's a giant leap backwards in the evolution of the core.

I've been in that building, it's in pretty rough shape.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think there was anything worth salvaging from the existing structures, I am just loath to see a new surface parking lot here (or anywhere else downtown for that matter), since they have a habit of becoming sacred and existing for decades.

There was a drill rig on that site for a couple of days last summer. Could have been for environmental or geotech sampling. Anyway, it may be an indication of a more significant long term development interest, rather than surface parking.

Did that site use to be a gas station? I wouldn't be surprised, and if so, it could be a medium term soil rehabilitation project followed by development, or simply a soil removal project followed by development.
(I remember seeing that there were some pipe caps on the ground in front of the garage)

Wasn't sure where to put this. Today while I was taking a quick walk around the hood, I noticed that at least one of the Sutton buildings in 1000 block of Johnson Street had all sorts of blue markings on the exterior.
My guess is that some significant exterior repairs or maintenance is required. Does anyone have any details?

Does anyone know of plans for development in the 1000 block of McClure? There's another development proposed for the 1100 block of McClure (discussed elsewhere on this forum), but there is a vacant lot in the 1000 block of McClure (west of Cook Street) that has a "land use application" sign which may or may not still be valid...nothing appears in the Development Tracker app.
