According to a coworker there was an article in the Globe and Mail regarding a movement to make Vancouver the Capital of BC. I havent found this article yet. He said this movement is funded by people and organizations with lots of money.

Personally I think its a dumb idea.

I dunno.. I personally like the idea of a smaller city like Victoria being the capital. Maybe it's because I grew up in Ottawa, the nations capital (vs. Toronto).

Victoria is older than Vancouver, there is a lot of history that entrenches our city as the capital of this province.

The Lower Mainland had their chance back in 1866 when New Westminster was the Capital ... but they were outsmarted by the city slickers from Victoria.

That's right, Vancouver might have had the ambition to host an Olympics, a World's Fair, etc, but Victoria had their sights set higher. :D What will it take to wake Victoria up though?

Perhaps Vancouver Island should become its own province.

I"m sure a lot of people here would love it. Get rid of that big chunk of employment. Tear down or let all the office buildings sit abandoned, demolish that massive obtrusive office and assembly building that ruins the inner harbour. We could finally become the second rate ghost town they want.

So what if we relocate 25,000 people?

Welcome to ghost town Victoria. Maybe Len Barrie could buy up property and expand the golf courses. Turn it into one big golf course.

Coal Harbour condominiums would become even more expensive. No more floatplane noise. No more floatplanes.

No, we would pave it. It could be one big surface lot.

Now come on, half the space would be "open space", some sort of open hard space with a by-committee public art installation. NEXT to the huge open space would be the parking lot (for parks for the hundreds of people that are attracted to such open spaces).

If P.E.I can make it work why couldn't we? We could resurrect Vancouver Island's Colonial flag ... let's do it!

I would replace the union Jack with something else, perhaps with something more westcoastish or perhaps something with a first nations theme?

Its funny when I mention that we should be a separate province, people ask how would we support ourselves?
