Yes, it’s all to support Royal Bank’s expansion at the shopping centre.

Ahhh... why does Royal Bank need to expand?

And why not just into all the empty storefront right next to it? This seems an expensive endeavour

Nice to see a quick food option up at that level.

Thanks for the heads-up, Jackerbie!

This is the final piece of the puzzle for Uptown's Douglas Street and Saanich Road frontages.

A distinctive Merrick-style project would have been a heckuva statement on this site.

Wow Saanich should turn this down as complete under-use of the lot. and surely they can work with Uptown to handle the parking through an underground connection rather than having any spots on the lot. I really thought this could be a distinct and taller office or retail / office mix. This is truly disappointing.

Seriously, you could probably build an office tower on that corner and still not require any on-site parking if there was some sort of win-win arrangement with Uptown.

This lot should be an LRT station with takeout food and kiosks

How would people carry a take-out kiosk?

I hope the LRT station has informational kiosks to make this clear to people. But those kiosks would need to be nailed down so nobody walks off with them.

On an LRT, you would ride off with them.

That's true. I suppose it wouldn't be such a problem then.

Feed you fake news all day long, you complain that it’s fake news. Feed you real news once in the morning and it’s “disappointing.” I don’t even know why I bother.

Maybe your stories wouldn't be so disappointing if you tried spicing things up a bit. Use more hyperbole.

"New building will loom over Douglas St. at Saanich Road intersection"

"Traffic, parking to worsen with new development near Uptown"

"Uptown businesses bracing for competition from new shopping complex"
