I dunno.  When you leave the ship, the water is on your right, when coming back, it's on your left.

For us that's easy, but for someone who's never been here, one minute the water is on their right, then it's on their left (the harbour), and then they venture out to check out the park, and all of a sudden they can't remember where the cruise ships are docked.

The guy who ran up to us said his phone didn't have a connection here so he couldn't call out or use data. He was literally in a panic.

So this got me thinking. Why is there no signage, anywhere, along the Dallas Road pathway?

You can't get back to the ships from there, but if they can find Fisherman's Wharf, there are signs.

If you want to find your way from the cruise ship to downtown, just follow the waterfront to Fisherman's Wharf, and there are signs. If you want to return to the cruise ship just go back the way you came via Fisherman's Wharf and look for the....

Nice timelapse HB!  How many shots over how much time?

I like what timelapse does to the clouds.  It really makes them look like the layer of cloud in the sky that they are.

Press release:

MEDIA RELEASE: GVHA TARGETS LONG TERM SUSTAINABILITY AND PRIORITIZES STRATEGIC PLANNING AND REGIONAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Victoria, British Columbia—a vibrant cruise season, completion of the revitalization of the Steamship Terminal, modest revenue growth and strategic planning for the future characterised the fiscal year ended March 31, 2015 (FY2014/15) for the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority (GVHA).

203 cruise ship calls brought over 467,000 passengers and nearly 195,000 crew to the capital region through the 2014 cruise season. Marina revenues remained stable compared to FY2013/14 and commercial revenues were up 8% over the prior year as a result of new property lease and license agreements. GVHA operated in the black recording $89,000 excess of revenue over expenses, on total revenues of $11.1 million for the year. This compares to revenue of $10.7 million in the prior year and excess of revenue over expenses of $974,075.

GVHA facilitated over $100 million of economic impact in the regional economy through its operations, particularly through a growing cruise industry, and invested nearly $1 million in the community through direct financial contributions and special initiatives to promote public access and enjoyment of its facilities.

GVHA’s Board initiated a strategic planning process that included significant consultation with GVHA’s eight Member Agencies, staff and stakeholders in order to develop a new 10-year strategic plan which will be presented at the October 2015 annual general meeting. The strategic plan reflects a lower risk appetite given GVHA’s forecasted asset investment requirements over the next decade. To this effect, GVHA developed the following supporting initiatives:

· Restricted Reserve Fund Policy—to provide guidance and methodology for growing an internal cash reserve fund in the event of a significant event affecting GVHA’s operations

· Asset Lifecycle Plan—to identify asset replacement costs and a timeline over the next 25 years

· Updated Enterprise Risk Management Program— to focus continued attention on the wide range of risks that are managed and mitigated by GVHA

Since its creation in 2002, GVHA has invested more than $24.7 million in capital assets across all facilities that are enjoyed daily by residents and visitors and spur significant economic activity in the region. GVHA continues to ensure that the Victoria harbour remains dynamic and varied in character as well as economically sustainable and an exciting place to live, work, play and explore.

GVHA’s FY2014/15 fiscal year audited financial statements are available online here.

Greater Victoria Harbour Authority (GVHA) is a not-for-profit organization governed by a local Board of Directors. It owns and operates deep water, marina and upland holdings throughout Victoria’s harbour including the large vessel Ogden Point port facility where a dynamic cruise tourism industry contributes over $100 million annually to the regional economy; Victoria’s renowned Fisherman’s Wharf float home community and small business hub; and the Inner Harbour’s luxury yacht and marine tourism facility at Ship Point. GVHA’s vision is a harbour where people live, learn, work and play; a spectacular gateway into Victoria’s past and into its future, monumental in look and feel, linking communities and all people together.

I like what timelapse does to the clouds. It really makes them look like the layer of cloud in the sky that they are.

So it was 2 different shoot total time was about 20 or 30 minutes approx 800 photos
1 image every 5 seconds
The clouds you see are the leading edge of a cold front that moved in from the south west yesterday afternoon

I am also still grabbing screen shots all the time from an inner harbour webcam, I started it in Sept 2012 and now have 7300 pictures. I plan on completing it about 1 month after the new JSB is in place perhaps 5 more years.

the 3 years I have now make a 4 minute movie.

In it one can see 2 new buildings  Promontory and the one on Broughton

3 smokey fires and much more

The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority wants to hear your ideas on the future of Ogden Point.

The non-profit organization that owns and operates the 30-acre cruise-ship port at the entrance to Victoria Harbour has launched Phase 3 of its Ogden Point Master Plan. It begins with community consultations and public engagement events that will continue to November.

The process includes comments from the public online at ogdenpointmasterplan.mindmixer.com. There will also be information sessions, open houses, meetings with key stakeholders and groups and workshops planned.

The harbour authority said it is seeking input from James Bay residents, First Nations, businesses, the tourism industry and residents from across Greater Victoria as it works to develop a master plan. It is looking for insights on potential on-site public amenities, transportation, accessibility and pedestrian circulation, existing facilities and potential industrial, marine, institutional and commercial uses.

Sounds like something the sewage people should have considered before tossing away millions.

I was at Ogden a few days ago watching dockings and many Wilson buses idled in the lot for time periods of about 30 minutes before leaving.

Seems that Wilsons isn't following the rules or its operators don't give a flying F about the rules.

The last cruise ship of the year is in port. It's heading out at 2pm for Los Angeles.

Royal Caribbean International’s Explorer of the Seas — the largest cruise ship ever to travel to Alaska — will make 21 stops at Ogden Point next year. The ship has a capacity of 3,100 guests — an increase of more than 1,000 from its predecessor, the Jewel of the Seas.

The harbour authority expects the ship to arrive at 8 a.m. and depart at 6 p.m. every Thursday.

The authority estimates that the ship will generate an extra $1.3 million in direct guest spending in the capital region.

The 2016 season will kick off April 3 and run to Oct. 17, the harbour authority said.
