Cunard will cruise the Pacific for the first time in 20 years with a cruise that will start in Japan and have a layover on May 30 in Victoria. The ship will be the Queen Elizabeth.

Sadly not the QE 2.
That was my initial thought and reaction exactly; saw the QM2 in the Caribbean once on one of our Mayan Riviera family trips - my god that is a big mother of a ship. That said all the Cunard designs are smart looking vessels & the Queen Elizabeth is certainly no exception.

That vessel visits Victoria on May 30, 2019, not 2017.

Samuel Cunard, good Nova Scotian lad. The stone gateposts to his home still stand in Halifax's south end.

The MS World is coming June 29th. Unclear how many days it's here for.
First of all, this is a modern big cruise ship you can actually live on. Well, you and me probably not, but celebrities like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Madonna, for example, own suites on it.

The local tourism marketing folks need to take advantage of this. "Come to Victoria and see the World" ®

Hmmm, there is another one coming online:
These might even be priced at more than Victoria's "outrageous" $1000/sq ft http://www.utopiares.../floorplans.php
I think I might like this one

FYI; Little Urban Vehicles is leaving Victoria and taking Canada's first LSV Electric vehicle company elsewhere. The city of Victoria, specifically the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority does not want or support this type of business here. We will be moving to Vancouver or elsewhere due to the heavy handed bullying of the GVHA. Little Urban Vehicles is now closed due to the threats from the GVHA and have eliminated 40 jobs. The GVHA also is threatening other established businesses that have been there for over 40 years. #cristyclark#johnhorgan #andrewweaver #littleurbanvehicles

40 jobs??? I call BS.
Apparently, according to James Whitney, the HA has terminated the Mercury Lease for the violation. So that added in, it could be 40 jobs.

So Mercury is going to close down and not simply move?

So what's the background here? What is GVHA's side of the story?

Oprah Winfrey was aboard an Alaskan cruise bound for Victoria, but did she make it to the Island?
American television personality Oprah Winfrey was aboard a Victoria-bound Alaskan cruise ship last week, but it remains unclear whether the A-list celebrity visited the B.C. capital or disembarked prior to the vessel’s arrival at Ogden Point.
Winfrey, who flew to Juneau, Alaska to board Holland America’s Eurodam on July 16, took part in an O, The Oprah Magazine cruise event with the publication’s top brass and a line-up of inspirational authors who held speaking engagements with passengers.
The 2,100-passenger vessel departed Seattle on July 15 and arrived in Juneau one day later. The itinerary had the Eurodam docking at Ketchikan on July 20, one day prior to its scheduled stop in Victoria on July 21.
Ketchikan’s Daily News reported Winfrey was aboard the Eurodam when the cruise ship sailed up to the town at 7AM. And according to the publication, she was scheduled to depart for Victoria at 1PM. It remains unclear, however, if Winfrey boarded the vessel bound for Victoria or opted to hop a flight back to the US mainland.
O magazine’s Adventures of Your Life cruises is scheduled to return to Alaska in the summer of 2018. Perhaps next year the wildly popular Winfrey, who no doubt has legions of local fans, will take in the sights and sounds of Vancouver Island. VV
