For the most part the place was filled with middle aged to just plain old folks...most of whom seemed to be horribly wealthy.
Yet its a very nice atmosphere, relaxed and casual, while open, airy and quietly elegant.
Beer was reasonably priced $7.50 for a pint of Guinness, probably about the same as the Irish Times, or not much more. Curry buffet was $29.00 each. Funny thing was that it must have been super rich, as I only had one plate full, but afterwards I felt so full and really sleepy. Food was good, not exceptional, but very good. Service was good, although our server seemed to be not as personable as the other one we noticed serving another area.
All in all, worth the money and I would go back again.

well, you see I went with my Irish wife, and in order to counteract the overwhelming British colonial atmosphere we had no choice but to defend ourselves with Ireland's most famous beer.. (a better choice than ordering a molotov cocktail I'm sure you would agree).
but yes, a lighter beer would have been more appropriate, perhaps even as HW mentioned, an India Pale Ale.

A lot of the world has gone to hell since we gave them independance (ie. most of Africa).

Maybe they can replace with a Golden Corral?
Or Golden Arches.

^ it was a joke.
I know. I'm not really speaking to your post. It just had not been widely reported what they are doing with the space, I'm pointing out what the manager said on camera the other day.

anyone have info on the history of Tiffany's in the basement of the Empress? Google isn't helpful, but locals I'm sure will be. not sure of the timeline, probably 80's....I downed pints at the Beaver, but never tippled at Tiff's.

ok, maybe Tiffany's wasn't accurate intel. the space I mention was at one time the Paint Cellar, if that sparks any memories. apparently the name of the club/ lounge/ disco changed several times over the years. any other names or stories of this joint would be fun to hear.
