Another interesting site to go to check out a restaurant is the VIHA Food Facility Inspections site:

I prefer not to know about how many rats have been found in a restaurant. Ignorance is bliss.

Well said. Pretty shocked to see that VicBooster took the time to copy over the few bad reviews on TripAdvisor to here, when the place has a 4.5 star rating on that site. Clearly a bad steak is the exception and not the rule.
Makes me think there's an ulterior motive behind that attack as it doesn't seem to be based on truth. Perhaps VicBooster is a competitor.
I am not a competitor and I have no skin in the game. The reviews were posted to illustrate that if something goes wrong at Brasserie L'ecole it almost always goes wrong with the steak.
Edited.

Because they are a steak restaurant pretty much...

My first time at Brasserie was great. I will go again. Both had steak frites, started with mussels and ended with the crepe dessert.
However, I won't say it was outstanding. I don't think the steak was any better than one from the Keg. The frites were fine, but I don't know what people rave about.
The mussels were fantastic (my favourite part of the dinner), as was the service.
The noise level was loud, as I expected for a small, always packed, restaurant. Not annoying, just, you know, vibrant.

Did you get the fries "fancied"? (w/ garlic & truffle oil - which I realize lots of places are doing now, but the Brasserie was one of the first around here...and are still the best IMO). I like their fries because they're the small cut and they don't over-cook them (too crispy=shredded mouth). For whatever reason steak-frites is small cut to me but fish&chips is big cut.

Yes, 'fancy fries'.
