We popped in a couple of times but Vertigo was a dead zone; the Sub Pub 'vibe' we had in the early-mid 80's was long gone by then unfortunately.

From the useless trivia vault Felicitas got its name from an ex-maintenance/cleaning lady named Felicita Gomez who worked there from 1967-89. She was a tiny and feisty spark-plug of a woman, originally emigrating with her husband from Spain. Great person, kind of an unofficial den mother to those of us who both worked and frequented the pub - which was waaay too much for me from 1981-6. Thursday night student "sub pub" nights were epic in those days. Between the lounge and the pub we were easily jamming 500+ people in there, far beyond the legal capacity, lol. We had some great bands in there too including a top notch ska-reggae outfit called "Bad English". Great memories....

We should phone some of these ph #'s and see if they deliver.

EDIT:  Chef's Table ph# is now Pacifica Dental.  Not likely to deliver.

My favourite item on the menu is rack of lamb. At Ivanhoe's - $13 for two

So it was back in 1984, a young VHF and few friends piled into a car and we went to Seattle. Our destination was a much-heard-about underage bar called "Scoochies" in downtown Seattle, we had heard the ads on Seattle radio.

Anyway, we got there and it was a bit of a bust, being rookies, I think we got there way too early and were almost the only ones there.

BUT, it was the first time we heard of this singer called Madonna (ya, I know she had one album prior, and it was/is great, but we did not really listen to it until her second album).

This was the song playing at Scoochies as we hung out all by ourselves.

More on the place, from Seattle's PI:   http://www.seattlepi...use-3894066.php

My Bar on Gorge Rd. has been hit with some type of closure order.

Anyway, it's not like this place set The Bar very high for style.

Bounced at Merlin's periodically; a fun club in its heyday. Bit of a s*** show though since the manager was one of Duncan Morrison's close cronies, and involved in various activities of dubious legality. We definitely experienced a few interesting late nights there when certain unsavory elements showed up at closing one night in particular - 6 guys in a van, baseball bats in hand - looking for the manager and, indirectly, Morrison. Fun times!

I remember a Merlin's bouncer helping me deal with a persistent creep one night. I choose to believe that was you, ASE.

Alrighty lets go with that Jill that sounds fine to me. :)

Actually as "incidents" go Merlin's was relatively calm. I also very occasionally subbed in at the old New York, New York where things were a bit more, um, "lively', and worked the door at the old UVic Sub Pub from 1982-6 where the weekly Thursday "Sub Nights" were the goofiest gong shows of all.

I remember a real jerk at New York New York who wouldn't let me and four of my idiot friends in just because we were hugely underage. I choose to believe that wasn't you, ASE.

My old co-workers used to buy their cocaine from Merlin's bouncers. Then we'd play poker all night.
