I'm sure glad the "Auditorium" part of the name didn't catch on.

As near as I can tell this is what 350 Cook Street looks like today

350.JPG

The seniors' building is 380 and Mac's is 324, so 350 would presumably fall in between, the site of the current parking lot.

Circa 1930's, James Bay along Dallas Road.

This photo is hanging up at City Hall right now. In the distance you can see grain elevators at Ogden Point.

And a productive, working farm turned into some sort of useless, grassy space for tourists to gawk at.

Actually it is now a well used dog park and walking path.

Looks like it's a painting.

That's what I was thinking. Monet or Millet.

It definitely seems inspired by Millet.

Regarding Pantorium, i had always thought it was a play on Pantone (as in pantone colour selector, pantone pens)

I thought it was Pantorum as in "a lot of pants" as it used to be a laundry. But it comes from the Latin for "everything". Island Blue no longer sells any Pantone or Letraset products. They used to be huge sellers in the pre-computer era.

I think it's a typo. It was supposed to be "Pantaurum". That's where all of the bulls were kept back in the old days.

They used to be called Island Blueprint back in the 1950's when they were at the SW corner of Blanshard and View.

They were still printing street maps of Victoria back then.

Just bumping this thread for the benefit of anyone who still falls for that nonsense about Victoria supposedly being preserved in amber, a living museum, etc.

Summary: the city has done a very poor job of preserving its historic architecture.
