There are people right here on this forum who have worked in bars and restaurants that never would have got ahead had they not been allowed to wear their heels.
And a few of those are probably even female.

The space formerly known as the Noodlecart, on Blanshard across from Yalla, has been replaced by what appears to be a new ramen joint. The building exterior even got a new paint job. Didn't get a good look or snap any pics.
The Japanese restaurant Sakura on Quadra adjacent to the Market on Yates is getting (or may have gotten - couldn't tell if it is completed) a facelift, which may be part of the overall beautification of that area.

Hold on, the title says "no more mandatory high heels," but that's a bit misleading. There has been no decision on that front just yet, it's currently just a proposal.
The whole thing is misleading, it was only some restaurants where it was required as part of a dress code, not a law. I would like to have seen someone who worked at one of these places for a while come in without heels on and see what would happen.

I'd like to see someone show up and apply to one of these places that was not willing to wear high heels.

The downtown Shine Cafe appears to be out of business (or renovating?)...
Open again.

The Chez Michel space on Oak Bay Avenue has new signs up, looks like they're doing chinese hot pot now. I don't think they're actually open yet.

New owners, or the folks behind Chez Michel?
Know it all.

I think that was the same space? I don't know who's running it, I just walked by on my way back from lunch. Looks pretty much the same inside, and I tried to get a close-up of the menu but it turned out blurry. Six bucks for a skewer of chicken gizzards.

They must be using the same advertising company as V2V.

The Cock Pheasant/ Hunting Horn/ Saanich Road House will no longer be a restaurant. Mac Renovations hung out their shingle over the weekend.

You know, that's not a bad location for Mac. Certainly when I sold home improvements, our office was on the Peninsula, and we did I bet 75% of our business there. And it's upper-end business.
I'm afraid the reality for restaurants is they need to be where staff can get to them. A lot of your back end staff and some of your front does not drive. I wonder how the Villa Eyrie does in this regard.

Outstanding In the Field is making their only BC stop for their long table dinner series this summer on Salt Spring Island at Bullock Lake Farm, on July 16th. The crew from Hawksworth in Vancouver will be doing the cooking, surely going to be a memorable event.

Matt.
Thanks for this info, I'm tempted to try to go. I was very lucky a couple of years ago and won dinner for 2 at Hawksworth - 6 course tasting menu with wine pairings and it was absolutely amazing.
