The metal grate scares the bejeebers out of me when it's wet. I ride a MTB with moderately smooth road tires. I've never been brave enough to put my road bike over the JSB's main deck. I just head up and over Bay or else the Goose if I am going that way and don't want to hop onto the rail bridge (and be the only cyclist in the whole world who actually walks her bike across).

I still haven't heard back from the Hallmark Society, I hope they haven't gone under.

Just an update regarding Hallmark folks not responding to your email this week - I happen to know that Helen E. (vice president, who handles the emails) has been out of the country on vacation and returns next week.

Also an aside - I have not been active on VV for months - but find myself checking in often to read new posts. You guys are doing a great job of keeping on top of current issues/affairs and I never read the local paper anymore because VV covers it all. Good work. Cheers, Sue

Hi Sue! We miss you.
:)
Nowadays most people die of a sort of creeping common sense, and discover when it is too late that the only things one never regrets are one's mistakes.

Appreciate that G-Man!

I think I used up all my brain coupons during the civic election. But they're thinking of giving me a weekend pass soon so I'll see if I can string a few thoughts together and post something brilliant, controversial, unfounded, or just plain uninformed.

(The lime jello is really good in here. You were right Mat :-)

Miss you too Cara! That coffee date is still good on my calendar.

Any response from Hallmark, LoverFighter?

Know it all.

Thanks Sue.
It's too bad they don't have any other recent information up on their website... such as next meeting time, etc.

Good point. And now that you mention it I'm not sure they have regular meetings.

Their office is across from City Hall in the square - and public email address is hmksoc@telus.net

Cheers for now, S

The heritage values underpinning the significance of the historic Johnson
Street Strauss trunnion bascule bridge are its iconic and monumental presence on Victoria's
Inner Harbour and the fact that it was designed by one of the most famous
bridge designers in the world, Joseph Strauss

Would Victoria's current city council have wisdom and fortitude to commission a contemporary
world class bridge engineer of the likes of, say, Spanish architect Santiago
Calatrava?

I doubt it. *So let's leave the current bridge alone.

Looks like the Hallmark Society needs to do some preservation work on their sign! :P

The Hallmark Society hasn't been at that location for over a year. I'd say it's the city who's been taking their time to update the signage...

They are now in the historic Ross Bay Villa across from the cemetary at 1490 Fairfield Road. The Land Conservancy owns the site.
