Saanich approves $100-million Mount View Heights development

October 7, 2009 10:02 AM

Saanich council approved the controversial Mount View Heights development, after a lengthy public hearing last night.

The $100-million development will see a so-called “campus of care” on the former Mount View High School site on Carey Road. The proposal calls for 409 seniors’ units offering everything from independent living to round-the-clock care, as well as 14 family townhouses with four secondary suites and 36 supported-housing units for homeless people over 55.

Vergo looks very, very nice. Except it screams out for a metal roof. That asphalt is lame on that modern-looking thing.

I don't know why the garbage area has to feature so prominently in both of the last two.

I have been impressed with the quality of the images you have been using on VV. Are you the photographer?

Vergo - very nice, really? I thought it was pretty mediocre.

I agree with you about the garbage tho, but I don't imagine that is the front entrance.

I drove by this a couple of times in the last week and one thing that impresses me is the size of the sidewalks, they are actually decently large and wide

So where is the 8-storey building as per the title of this thread?

The initial buzz was centered on the 8-storey building which is still planned but other structures on the "social housing campus" have been completed or are still being worked on. I've changed the thread title to better reflect the entire property and individual projects.

I think you clearly accidentally posted one of the alternate cladding options for the hospital expansion.

I know a guy who worked on the deconstruction of the school. In the attic of the school they found a number of boxes of school records going back to the 1920's. They contained student lists with names and addresses.

Instead of turning them into the school board or a museum he said his boss took them home and no one saw thenm again.

I thinnk that they should have gone to a place where the historical signifigance was recognised.
