People children, hey?

Last night at the dance party we overheard a girl trying to decipher the difference between "bike cops" and "police cops." I'm guessing there's something in the water.

Vote in our CHEK Point poll:

Do you think your dog likes to be hugged?

http://www.cheknews....-hugged-168459/

If you don't have a dog you can probably think of a substitute, and submit your vote.

Now THAT is some hard-hitting journalism. It's a shame the Pulitzer Prize* is not awarded in Canada.

*For the Journalism competition, entrants may be of any nationality but work must have appeared in a U.S. newspaper published at least once a week, on a newspaper's Web site, on an online news organization's Web site, and in some categories, in a U.S. magazine published at least weekly or its Web site.

Why does it automatically censor *****? I'm speaking in scientific terms.

You might find that ***** is not a scientific term, at least not in common usage.

Forgetaboutit, this is the straight laced CHEK TV thread, not the Bill Nye the Science Guy forum.

I met Bill Nye The Science Guy in an airport a while back, highlight of the trip.

I don't think there is a lot of harm to that, actually. There are benefits to uniforms.. in public schools of course, not pubic ones :P.

What exactly would constitute a uniform in a pubic school? A jockstrap maybe?

Oh oh. It would appear that whatever ad network CHEK is using on their website, some nasty ads have been injected into the stream and are now hijacking smartphones.

This virus warning is appearing for visitors and taking over their phones. For someone who isn't savvy enough to manoeuvre out of the situation by resetting all apps or restarting the phone immediately, this could spell absolute disaster -- especially if you expect that whatever content is served to you on an official media website is legit!

I doubt any virus is immediately injected onto a smartphone but that's not to say a download hadn't been started or that the browner wasn't hijacked in some way.

Yikes.

To be clear, you are saying that the virus masquerades as a virus cure, fooling victims into installing it?

Yup, that's what it appears is happening. Clicking on that link could introduce a world of hurt.

You'd think that a big-time media organization would not use ad networks that allow this sort of thing. It's crazy how many people might end up with a locked device or fall victim to an extortion scheme because of this.

Ironically it's usually CHEK that loves fear-mongering. In this case, it would actually be justified, but I somehow doubt they'll run a story on this.

Reports are now coming in that the TC website is also running these ads.

Similar issue occurred in the past year or so with sites like CTV, New York Times, and CBC - malicious ads injected into the ad stream.
