I'm not sure if it should be allowed.  The people that bought in that building bought with it having a certain zoning.  I hope their say is heavily weighted.  Also, are they not the building owners?  Isn't it them, or cooperatively with Townline that ought to bring this application?

I'm thinking about the smell a brew-pub has.  I always hate the stink at Canoe.

But such convenience for growler filling! As a non-resident of The Hudson, I support this whole-heartedly. I'd like to see one of the existing breweries open a pub with small scale seasonal/specialty/cask beer production on site.

What if they didn't brew on-site?

Is Canoe liquor primary?

I have never noticed a stench at Canoe or Moon Under Water...

Why would a brewpub have to be liquor primary? Are Canoe or Moon Under Water liquor primary? A food primary establishment can still sell an awful lot of beer. Places like Breakwater Bistro and Earls are nearly a nightclub some nights and they're food primary.

Moon Under Water would be better served by being downtown. A Hoyne or Moon Under Water brewpub downtown would be awesome.

Canoe is LP, except part on the south side.

I dunno, there are all kinds of goofy rules if you do not brew onsite.   Like you can't sell your own product.

Nothing so dreary as a pub with no beer

He can make as much as the market can drain and sell it all over the city and province -- except for one place.

B.C.'s Liquor Control and Licensing Act prohibits liquor licences to anyone with the slightest association to the manufacturing end, but it does 'interpret' the rule, allowing people like Thomas to own a bar as long as he doesn't sell any of his product there. Other manufacturers, such as Swans Hotel, can sell the beer it brews in the bar it owns because they are on the same premises. The same for wineries such as Church and State in Central Saanich.

Them's simply the goofy rules.  MUW found out the very hard way, when they wanted to move into the Monday Magazine building (where the specialty fitness place is now), but luckily got their license anyway for their new place.

So if you brew on site you have to be a liquor primary?

If you don't brew on site you can't sell your own beer you brew down the road?

Yes and correct.

Welcome to liquor laws in BC.  Absolutely weird, archaic, and kafka-esq.

I would LOVE a brewpub in that location. It would really give Douglas Street some heart and soul and help out the balance of businesses in the Victoria Public Market.

The Green Grocer is moving from the high spot in the Market to the corner close to where Smoken Bones was located.    This will happen on the 23rd if I recall correctly.

Apparently a cafe or a mix of two businesses will go into the old Green Grocer spot.

From their website...https://hudsonyoga.ca/schedule

Our biggest challenge is the landlord, Townline, who takes unreasonable action without warning and is currently making it very difficult for anyone else to take an actionable step. We had been planning a rebranding and studio upgrades, however, we have also recently learned within the last 24 hours that the rent is going up significantly in 2018 without exception. While Townline will be asking more of us they will be delivering less, removing access to the underground parkade and the main entrance.

This is where we are today. Discussions are underway with the landlord in the hopes of re-opening the space under new ownership.

I’m told the brewpub might open as early as June.

Ahhh, cool. I was wondering that yesterday when we were heading to the Royals game. That immediate area really is a dead zone for food and beverage outlets.
