...But hey, $460 million Fastcats (priced at $674 million in today's dollars) were a priority.

Meanwhile, for the past 16 years a $500,000 $500 million replacement stadium roof, a 100% over budget convention centre and a Winter Olympics were a priority.

Is there any indication whether portions of the interchange will be opened piecemeal (such as the bike trail then the new merge lane from Mackenzie... etc) or if it will all be done simultaneously?

I think that both by necessity and for expediency, they will open piece-meal.

Piece Meal would be a decent band name.  Or Peace Meal, as a name for an NGO that delivers pre-portioned food on a sliding frequency and quantity scale, as a reward to areas that undertake to end war.

Going to open in parts. The trail bridge for the Goose will open first to move the bike/walk traffic out of the construction zone

Well, thank the lord (or lords, perhaps lourdes?)

I think that after the bike path opening, the new merge lane from Mackenzie Westbound to TCH Northbound should be opened. I see that in and of itself increasing traffic flow due to the ability to actually be at speed before merging.

These photos are a great way to anticipate the bottleneck that will occur when they start to excavate the "dip" in the actual highway.

All traffic in both directions will seemingly be re-routed to the side of the highway (some sort of gravel by-pass) while the dip is dug, and still be stuck with a four way stop.

Sounds like an absolute Crawl nightmare.

Ya, it ain't gonna be pretty.  I think they will pave the bypass though, and install temporary traffic lights.

Yes, but do the local drivers have this ability? Not from what I've seen.  :whyme:

Actually both sets of one and off ramps will be opened at the same time so the portion of highway can be closed. The entire highway section has to be dug out and traffic will be diverted onto the on/ exit ramps while that happens.

I've noticed over the past month that not only is there not many individual construction workers onsite at any given point in time, but there really isn't very much heavy equipment onsite considering the scale of the project.

The heavy equipment that is onsite definitely isn't the Euclid (now Hitachi) variety of massive dam building equipment you normally see when there's this much earthmoving taking place, rather it's just run of the  mill construction equipment. (think Fort McMurry for the appropriately sized equipment).

There's really no reason other than the contractor trying to make a buck that there isn't 4 or 5 times the manpower and equipment inventory onsite each and every workday.

With the will, this project could easily be wrapped up in half the time (or less) than we're being told it will be wrapped up in.

I agree. Nothing worse than looking over your shoulder to find your spot to merge into and then looking up and seeing some asshat has stopped in front of you. Bad in a car, really bad on your bike.

Isn't some time simply required for some copression or whatever it's called?
