A building in NYC when I lived there save an old bank building for the lobby of the new building. The entrance to to elevator bank was through the entrance to the bank vault.
Wow, I imagine that looked fantastic.

That Whopper sign is kind of cool. Oh, that reminds me, that place is no longer 24/7.
Well, Shoppers is just awaiting their big move...
Hey now! That's the other in-call escort agency in town, you do not want them to tear that down. That'll just drive up prices at the remaining one due to decreased competition. That's bad for the consumer.

I agree with Nparker. Remove the covers from the Fields building and the Odd Fellows building and do a decent restoration of the 711 building and the surprisingly old Burger King building. Oh, and replace the Shoppers Drug Mart building with my mini tower. It would be a great complement to the revitalization of the other three buildings between Burger King and the corner of Yates.
aastra, no fair! Your two-second Photoshop job makes those abominable teardowns look quaint and appealing, like something you'd see in a city that actually cares about stuff.

FYI, this is what I was meaning re: build something new on the Wilson Hotel property and add one level on top at the corner:
I'm not sayin'. I'm just sayin'.

We'd end up with a prostitution crisis on top of our housing crisis. You don't think all Lisa Helps' M-Friday construction workers from up-Island, living at the Rock Bay Atco Trailer camp just want a beer on a Thursday night do you, before driving home to their families for the weekend? If you believe that you've never been to a trade show/convention in Vegas on business.

Aaaack! Just when I thought Douglas Street couldn't get any worse. I was so hoping the word "quaint" had once and for all been banished from the local vernacular. If not, can we please send it (and aastra's paint cans) to whatever dark corner of Hell thankfully took possession of Fable Cottage and Land of the Little People.

I admit it, I can't quite figure out these "Phil McCavity meets Ken Johnson" riffs that you've been doing today. Although I appreciate the effort all the same. It adds a splash of colour to this board, not unlike the splashes of colour that would benefit those old buildings on Douglas Street.

Wilson Hotel building has already had its major haircut by this point.
And this post from May, 2008:

The Hotel Wilson was across the street on the north side. And yes, it did get chopped down like so many other old buildings. It's just two stories now, isn't it?
Yates Street got shorter when they chopped down the Wilson Hotel, and Broad Street got shorter when they chopped down the Colonist Building.

Come on, seriously? Countless times I've ranted and raved about buildings losing or gaining levels. I've noted that it was nothing unusual, hence no reason to get freaked out when somebody proposes to do it today.
Pardon me, though bleeding thread of VV, that I am meek and gentle with these posters.

Heck, I've seen four story buildings where they remove all four floors, and then the basement as well.

Ok you win the big prize.
Who care if it was you or 10 other people that talked about it a long time ago.
I brought it up again. This site has new people on it all the time they dont go back and look specifically for those posts so me posting it again is informative to them.
Sorry I hurt your feelings
