I had heard that the owners of the Rohani tower (Home of the Fort Street Staples) hate the below-ground pit at the entrance to their building. It's never been much more than a late-night urinal and/or homeless shelter. Street view.

But I didn't know that Praxis was hired to draw up a replacement.

I'm guessing the costs are too much for them to go ahead with this.

Isn't 747 Fort called the Rohani Building?

Sorry, Rohani building. I've edited my mistake. This was ScotiaBank headquarters for many years.

Ok, I thought perhaps the name changed. I'll update the thread title.

This went out for tender back in July 2008, but the project was shelved and still is as far as I know. It was worth $1.2 million as I recall, Kinetic was low bidder, and Praxis was the architect.

I had to look at street-view to even recall there was stairs down. Shows how unnoticable it is. I guess I've never been in there.

^It makes the Commerce Building's pit at Douglas and View look like Shangri-La.

I hope they do this. Between a new lobby and the possibility of new development on the Broughton side, that mid-block walkway has some great potential.

Good call Holden, the company that manages and or owns this building is "Quadra Pacific". This group is a very class act. The founder is Mr. Stewart from Stewart and Hudson building supplies. They have a number of buildings in town. They are all in prime condition.

I am sure that 747 will be improved in the near future.

I wonder about the origin of the Rohani name. I know it's a common name among local members of the Baha'i faith. Perhaps the developer was from Iran.

It's the same family that built Aria etc., Farmarz (Fred) Rohani and Bijan Neyestani.

Fred's dad built the building back in the late 1970's and as I recall PCL was the general. Rohani sold off the building many years ago, I can't recall who owns it now

Former Councillor Sonya Chandler didn't like the installation of the Staples sign. Thing is, a large sign is an important design element of this building. It looks bare without a corporate logo on it, as much as this horrifies a certain segment of the population.
