He's been in the hospital in a coma for 30 years. Stop being ignorant.

THIS!

I couldn't give a crap about construction workers in a thread about cops, and in response to a post about a man who's been in a coma for three decades.

What an utterly ridiculous comparison, and what a boorish and tasteless attempt to derail a thread.

The bait-bike program is modelled after the police department’s successful bait-car program, which uses GPS and video cameras to snare would-be thieves.

Members of VPD raised a stink after some of the bait that was NOT stolen was left under the front seat.

Police likely deployed a dragnet to catch a man alleged to have stolen a “bait bike”   :cop:

Oak Bay police officers doing traffic control for Saturday’s Remembrance Day ceremony rescued a man who fell off his boat into the waters near Oak Bay Marina.

Constables Brett Stewart and Eric Payne were stationed on Beach Drive just after 10 a.m. when they received a call about a man yelling for help in the water.

A pedestrian walking by the marina saw the man clinging to the side of his sailboat moored in the bay.

........municipal councilor Tara Ney was walking to the Oak Bay cenotaph for the Remembrance Day ceremony this morning, she heard shouts for help. Hearing that it was coming from the water off Beach Dr. near the Oak Bay Marina, but unable to see where the person was located, she quickly called 911. ...........

Workers down at Vic PD Headquarters were trying to remove a totem pole.

It seems it was rotten and was being restrained so as not to fall over.

The area was cordoned off to keep the public safe.

The name of the totem has not been released.

On a rare occasion this morning I had the radio on to hear a news clip about the Saanich Police being open to a regional police force. Lisa Helps is also interested and a meeting will be happening next week between Saanich & Victoria (and Esquimalt indirectly).

Don't see this anywhere in the media yet or on this site. Anyone have more info?

I believe it was Atwell that initiated this.

Long overdue and exciting. It is crazy that we don't have regionalized police and fire departments.

^I hope for the best but I fear that much like the amalgamation issue, the politicians will forget what they committed to shortly after election day.

Do I have to repeat the stories of cops from neighbouring municipalities frozen in confusion when a suspect staggers down the middle of a street straddling the border?

I've not really thought about this until you mentioned it, but is there something out there that prevents regional fire departments? I've seen many regional police departments, but never a regional fire department.

I found this article about what happened to all the fire departments when the area around Halifax was all amalgamated into the HRM. It's quite interesting. Much of what else I have read is that regional fire departments have been opposed by the public, versus seemingly more support for regional police departments.

We have a provincial ambulance system. Seems to work pretty good.

Know it all.
Citified.ca is Victoria's most comprehensive research resource for new-build homes and commercial spaces.

Though I'm sure Paramedics wish they were municipal when they see what their police and fire colleagues are making.

But beyond that, health care being funded provincially is the driver for that, while police and fire are still municipal responsibilities.
