...As the Janion project approaches the home stretch it just seems to get better and better. It makes me think the city should be bending over backwards to give the developer WHATEVER it takes to make the "companion project", Northern Junk, just as successful.

I see things have been pretty quiet on this thread so far this year. While I appreciate that Victoria City Council has its hands full doing absolutely nothing in regards to the tent slum, I am curious if NJ is moving ahead in the approval process and also if there are any renderings of the latest incarnation available. It sure would have been exciting to see the "narrow skyscraper" proposal accepted here. I would imagine that was just a ploy to scare Council/Hallmark into accepting what Reliance really wants to build - and build well - at this location.

^ That's really too bad, because the "narrow skyscraper" was by far the best of the designs for the site.

You know, it occurs to me that the Northern Junk tower would be a pretty impressive "statement" building for that lot on the Vic West side where the office building was supposed to go.

You know, it occurs to me that the Northern Junk tower would be a pretty impressive "statement" building for that lot on the Vic West side where the office building was supposed to go.

As long as a "statement building" on the west side doesn't diminish the possibility of a redeveloped NJ project on the east side I cool with the idea.

For sure. I'm just saying that very same flavour of building could work really well on the Vic West side, but for some reason I hadn't really considered it before.

Interesting to see the City of Victoria omit any mention of the proposed NJ development in its online survey on the proposed improvements to the neighbouring Reeson Park. 

 

Survey feedback is sought before July 11, 2016.

It's virtually just an expanded version of the Janion. It SHOULD get a slam-dunk endorsement by Council, but I am sure someone's view will be obscured.
