At some point that rule will need to go in any event.

Visit my blog at: https://www.sidewalkingvictoria.com

It has a whole new look!

I'm sure that there's an obvious answer, but I'm too obtuse to figure it out for myself: why is that liqour-primary and food-primary establishments in Downtown do not have to meet parking requirements?  Is it something like there's a Downtown Entertainment District and parking requirements are waived for this zone?

Most (not all, but most) of the pubs and bars downtown are part of some hotel or other, which would already have some sort of parking arrangement anyway.

Uhhh, that's not right.  What's your explanation for food primary?  Food primary establishments outside of the downtown have seating tied to parking.  Last time I checked, most restaurants downtown aren't affiliated with hotels or provide their own parking.

the zoning for most of the downtown core does not require parking for most uses.

Correct, in most of the CA (Old Town District) zones parking is only required for offices of more than 9,350 sq.ft. For reference, here's the zoning for the property that Garrick's Head is located in: http://www.victoria..../Bylaws/6.7.pdf

The CA zone for pubs is identical, except that it allows "Neighbourhood Pub" as a permitted use.

Moon's new tasting room seems to be finally open. Saw folks sitting in there when I drove by on Bay a couple of days ago.

it seems to be just a temporary pub extension for december. since (afaik) there haven't been any issues maybe it will convince the city to move things along?

So we decided to hit up MUW because in part I've always been intrigued by that location and was curious about what they offered in terms of food. Additionally they actually have a menu for dogs and since we're recently back in the land of the Dog Owner crowd we went for that reason too.

Pets naturally have to sit outside with their owner/family on one of two decks at the front and side of the premises respectively. There were probably 8-10 other families or couples who brought their pooches all of whom were a hit with patrons and all were well behaved.

In a word the experience was GREAT. "Willy" had six doggy meatballs ($10) which he promptly hoovered down so fast the poor things had no idea what hit them.

Our server was excellent (Mrs ASE gave her a 30% tip) and the menu offerings were collectively very tempting and the food was really, really good. She had nachos, something I typically will nibble at sparingly but these were excellent so I noshed on a few of them. I had hot and sour shredded chicken soup as an appy - YUM! - and the halibut/fish tacos with coleslaw as the main, which were amazing. We'll definitely go back.

Would they be able to accommodate my dogs? I have a German shepherd, a French poodle, and a Pekingese.

The French poodle's eyesight isn't great, so she would require a larger typeface.

They are inclusive, diverse and welcome all breeds, colors and....oh wait sorry momentary mental lapse......thought I was writing a Liberal Party press release for a moment there.....and wouldn't that be a Bejingese  these days?

If they can accommodate our behemoth Pyrenees they can handle anything. It was actually pretty cool to see so many people show up with their furry family members. Added a different and fun vibe to the dining experience.

I wonder if they offer a Braille menu for canines who have fully lost their sight?

Can dogs even use QR codes?

This all reminds me of the scene in Strange Brew where they give the dog a beer in his food dish. Beer and dog food swirling together.

^Just like the old proverb: "feed a dog beer and it will take a lifetime to teach him how to fish".
