The pub was abruptly closed for 3 days last week.

Open again now though.

Sticky caters to an older demographic, so their sales have plummeted. This is not a closure related to a COVID outbreak.

They are also popular with the tourist crowd, and we know how that has gone.

Know it all.

I would not say it caters to any older crowd than say Irish Times. Does it?

I don’t know.

Yes I think it does well with tourists normally.

They’re competing for Sticky’s business, plus they bring in lots of 30-50 year olds. Sticky seems to be a 50+ hangout.

…and Games Room has become the new Boom Boom Room crowd pleaser. Not everyone’s cup of tea.

Is this something that has changed in the past few years? Many Saturday nights during the early to mid 2010s ended up at Sticky, and always remember it as mostly a younger crowd. Now, I remember the bar and dance floor at the north end of the venue often had an older crowd, but the rest of the pub and games room, far younger.

I imagine that they would also get a fair amount of "after work" business and that of course has cratered as well since 90% of people are still working from home.

As both parties were reportedly living rough/homeless, I couldn't resist the obvious cheap shot.

Gun found, charges laid in shooting near Nanaimo Parkway

Robert Allen Estes, charged with attempted murder, remains in custody

Aug. 3, 2022

A gun allegedly used in a shooting in Nanaimo on the B.C. Day long weekend has been found and a suspect has been charged with attempted murder.

According to a Nanaimo RCMP press release, Robert Allen Estes, 48, of no fixed address, has been charged with the one count of attempted murder in connection with a shooting incident that happened the afternoon of Monday, Aug. 1, near the Northfield Road intersection of the Nanaimo Parkway.

The gun was found by a team of investigators, led by Nanaimo RCMP Police Dog Services. The team searched “through a seemingly endless supply of bramble bushes” and found the sawed-off shotgun in the late afternoon on Tuesday, Aug. 2. in the vicinity of Northfield and Boxwood roads. The weapon will undergo a forensic examination.

Estes has been remanded into police custody to await his next court appearance Thursday, Aug. 11, in provincial court in Nanaimo.

The 43-year-old shooting victim, who suffered serious, life-threatening injuries, remains in hospital.

Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.

Clubgoers in Victoria will soon have another option for a night out on the town, as the Strathcona Hotel announces its newest venue opening later this month.

https://www.cheknews...-month-1089603/

Wicket Hall opens its doors to the public for a special celebration on Sept. 23 and 24 and replaces the shuttered Distrikt nightclub, according to staff.

__________

The release states that Wicket Hall will be a “significantly improved venue” for showcasing Canadian and International recording artists and will feature a gold and sports simulator for guests.

All the best bars have a gold simulator. Some of the cheaper bars have silver or bronze simulators.

It's to be a golf simulator, not gold.

I'm wondering if this place will be open for special events only and closed all other times, or simply function as a nightclub when there isn't a special event.

Strathcona Hotel opens new multi-purpose venue, Wicket Hall, with concert tonight

Many in the city remember the club located at 919 Douglas St. as The Forge, which remained a popular hub for live music for several decades and hosted early-career performances by everyone from Nirvana and the Black Crowes to Blue Rodeo and Barenaked Ladies. The room operated as Legends from 1996 until 2007, at which time it was re-branded Element. It was later known as Club 9one9, before transitioning to its most recent incarnation, Distrikt.

So what was it like?

Our BizOps teams, close to 200 warm bodies strong, are slated to have our Christmas party at the S-W in mid December and I'm curious. I haven't set foot in the joint since a stag in the mid-90's and I'm sure the layout must be completely different from what I recall of it 25+ years ago.

Between one thing and another I've yet to get down there. :(
