Well, I'm one guy that doesn't think the city is going to grow all that much. Or any significant growth will be matched by different work patterns that mean no real increase in traffic.

.. pool-playing traffic that is.

In the grand scheme of things though, it's pretty minor. For 8 or 9 years I sold products by doing in-home presentations.

We almost had to bring the rabbid dog in from the back yard to chase the vacuum cleaner guy out of the living room. You must have hated yourself for those 8 or 9 years :P

must fight urge to continue taking this thread off topic.....

Roofing, siding, window installations etc., so a little better than vacuum cleaners.

No pool tables though.

Small town with a big ego? More like medium-sized town with a small town complex.

I have to agree, a city with ~300 000 residents is not a small town

No billards balls? Cues? Or more specifically Peacock's branded balls and cues?

Seems like talking about office towers has hit a nerve, hey History Buff?

More like I should not post things in the morning before I have had my first caffeine fix of the day. Sorry if I came across as a grumpy bas-Tard I will correct that behavior by indulging in coffee before hitting the "submit reply" button

I know there are those who will not agree but I actually like the design of that building especially the recessed windows when erected in 1961 it was probably a littl ahead of its time but I think that 52 years later it still has a modern look to it and some character not just a big glass wall.

I took this photo from the roof of 747 Fort (Staples Tower)

Nice. How did you gain access to the roof of the Rohani Building?

Many Floors have had long term vacancies in this building. The whole floor above street level has been empty for months.

With that being said it would not make any sense to tear down an empty building to build another larger one.

This city has too many people who think that it is a larger metropolitan city. The fact is that it is not. Anyone who has traveled extensively to other cities will know that this is a small town with a big ego.
There is no need for and no demand for highrise office towers here.

Makes me think about all the big talk about LTR again this is not Portland nor Toronto and it would be a big waste of money to build tracks down Douglas and out to Langford. Busses alway claiming they need extra bus lanes due to a 5 km stretch of road ( Douglas from Mayfair to McKenzie) that gets congested for 2 hours each afternoon when for the remaining 99% of the time there is no need for such infrastructure and extra lanes. I fyou want to know what rush hour or traffic congestion is go to Latin American Countries or as close as Seattle where it IS a problem

No wonder nothing ever gets done in this city other than years and year of gums flapping about ideas.

The City of Victoria really only occupies a few square kilometres or block say from Chatham to Belville and from Wharf to Cook the rest of it is outskirts.

Actually its called LRT. And we do have a traffic problem and it may be not like Seattle or Vancouver, but its still a problem that needs to be addressed. Not to say that LRT is the solution, but to suggest that all is well is ignoring the issue.

The reason nothing gets done in this region, is that we have people who prefer the status quo of doing nothing, whinning about any change that occurs, doing endless studies. If something is done, its usually for the wrong reasons or is rushed.

For some reason this city seems to think we dont deserve anything new and that attracting young families into the core is a waste of time. Look at Langford and how they are attracting younger people. Our harbour hasnt changed in 20 years because we are still talking about it.

So many things could have been built in the core.

A new library
A childrens Museum,
new ferry terminal at Belleville
redevelopment of the Wharf St lands
a science world type complex
downtown streetcar line
new ogden pt development
etc.

It has been suggested many times, that this region is the land of CAVES (Citizens Against Virtually Everything.)

The CIBC building lacks a proper and inviting street presence. Perhaps a redesign of the commercial area should be in order? I havent played pool in years.

A couple of Meet-up groups meet here. The Philosophers' Cafe and the artists group. It's a good venue for this use.

The "Mitzi Open" pool tournament was held again tonight at Peacock Billiards. The first event was held 18 years ago. This was the first year that the contestants were able to enjoy a beer or two while playing. Delightful.

Thanks to all the great staff for an enjoyable evening.

Does anyone else find it ironic that is Colliers HQ and CBRE is the commercial leaser for it?

With Colliers leaving for 1515 Douglas I'm sure their allegiance has been severed. But if I'm not mistaken CushWake had the contract before CBRE.
