It...er... stikes... me that there have been. I know there have been votes before, and close calls, but I also think there have been some short strikes too.

Any previous strikes at The Empress?

Empress Hotel Workers Strike

The 500 members of CAW Local 4276 who work at Canadian Pacific's famed Empress Hotel in Victoria, BC, went on strike at 11:00 p.m., Sunday, September 19, their first labour dispute in 91 years.

The workers, who work in all areas of the hotel from the back offices to the front desks, are seeking internal wage equality - and parity with their brothers and sisters at Canadian Pacific's Hotel Vancouver, just a few miles away.

The CAW is also seeking protective seniority for gratuity-earning employees, who need to work enough hours in the high season to be able to survive in the off-season. But CP, who last year made the highest profit per employee - $37,375 - of any Canadian-owned corporation, is refusing.

Mediation has been scheduled for September 28 and 29.
