Yeah, it's been relatively nice in the city centre.

Know it all.

Ya, the goal this winter is to keep the water from going over the edge.

When the CRD fires up the emergency sirens, turn on at least one tap.  Better yet, go out to your front yard and open the fire hydrant.

Or even better get more of the welds to fail on the water mains from the reservoir to the city, like what happened a week ago.

However, the reservoir is happily at 99% and should burble and gurgle over the edge tomorrow.

On second thought babble is a more appropriate sound for the brook below the reservoir.

Haven't heard the sirens yet.

There is some seepage at the spillway and they need to find somebody who wants to stick their finger in the hole.

The reservoirs in Northern California have gained some million acres of storage in the past seven days, Michael Anderson, a climatologist with the California Department of Water Resources estimates. And total surface storage for the state is roughly 97 percent of average, with the the total storage for the largest reservoirs being at 111 percent of normal.

No report since Christmas Day.  Weather-related access problems?  Or just vacation?  Or does 2017 signal the end of public reporting?

... does 2017 signal the end of public reporting?

To be fair to the CRD, it takes a while to come up with a plausible sounding story to explain why even with a deluge this winter, water rates are still going up and mandatory usage restrictions have to come into effect in May.

First-time home buyers Michelle Lee and Calvin Chok were shocked, when they found out their next water bill could be as much as $3,129 — ten times what they normally pay.

“We never had a bill over $300, so it was quite shocking,” explains Chok.

Last week, the couple discovered a leak on their font lawn that had likely been flowing for several weeks, possibly months.

“We couldn’t tell, I mean it was raining for so long, we had no idea,” says Lee.

They immediately called a plumber to fix the break before learning just how much water had flowed.

“We decided to phone in the water company because we were a little bit worried and [Calvin] checked the meter. It was 2,000,” says Lee, “That’s ridiculous, how come they didn’t tell us?”

Under Central Saanich’s bylaw for leak adjustments, they have been offered a discounted rate — charging them for the water at sold cost.

“But that’s still $1,981.06,” explains Chok, “That’s way more than what I pay in a year.”

So we've been spilling water at the reservoir since December (yes, it's full), that's OK.  But this guys spills it on his lawn and does not notice, but it might cost him $3000.

And let's not forget, mandatory watering restrictions come into place in just over 3 weeks.

We had a nasty surprise bill at work, double what it usually is, which was caused by a leaky pipe in the sidewalk - after the meter.

I protested it, the water supply reduced the bill to what it should have been, no problem. All I had to do was ask.

Matt.

Sooke 100%.

Stage #1 water restrictions start today.

...Stage #1 water restrictions start today.

What a relief. With several months of overflow at the reservoir, below normal temperatures and of course today's rain, we are clearly experiencing a water shortage in the region.
