The work at the interchange will involve lowering the Trans-Canada Highway, and constructing ramps, an overpass and a pedestrian-cyclist bridge over the highway.

Langford Mayor Stew Young said he is satisfied with construction progress, but added he hopes the province commits to adding more lanes to the highway and turning the defunct E&N Rail line into another commuter passageway.

Langford has closed access to Humpback Road at the E&N Railway crossing.

Emergency vehicles will be able to use the road, but general traffic will not.

The City of Langford said the closing was imposed by the Island Corridor Foundation as a condition of the E&N crossing installed at the new West Shore Parkway.

Jacklin Road to Humpback Road

The final segment of trail required to complete the E&N Rail Trail is a 3.6 km section of trail from Jacklin Road to Humpback Road in the City of Langford.

The Regional Trails Management Plan (2016) recommends a further extension of the trail along Humpback Road to link to Sooke Hills Wilderness Regional Park.

No schedule for construction of these segments of the trail has been identified at this time.

The Songhees Nation will probably have a station for the tram, so that you can visit their Wellness Centre.

Before that!   Once we get all that cheap power from the new dam we will be able to bring back the electric street cars.

No crossing arms on the street either.  Even when they had trams.  We have none now, trains or trams, and we install arms.

With the cost of a set of arms at today's prices we could have bought the whole streetcar line back then.

Today we put the arms in first because that will attract trams looking for a safe crossing.

It makes total sense. In 50 years when the tram is in finally place we will be thinking thank goodness we only spent 50k a crossing back in the 2000’s they would be a million each now!

It's more like $250,000 per crossing.

Haha I agree! Its like the highway system or the older dams, they would never be built now. But more likely in 50 years when they finally start looking at it, they'll realise the crossings are not up to standard and rip them out when they install the mag-lev system

Recently a truck hit the rail bridge at Hereward Road and got stuck. This is some of the information that was posted on another thread.

here;https://vibrantvicto...278#entry417716

The two bridges say the clearances are the same but in reality they are different. All of the signage says 3.7m.

If you look at the bridge in photo at left, the driver of the truck would see both bridges while heading south.

If you look at the rail bridge at right when heading north you cannot see the second concrete bridge because it has more road clearance.

There is no damage to the concrete rail trail bridge so the truck cleared the first bridge while driving south, only to find the second bridge at a different height.

There is a deception happening here that would not be apparent when driving south and you would trust the signage on the first bridge which is CORRECT.

Scroll down for more;

This photo shows the differences in height when looking at the abutments.
