I will guess it was "QUADRA STREET BOOT AND SHOE REPAIR DEPOT".

Actually Tatersall (west of Quadra) is having a MAJOR face lift. I grew up on that street.....I had better go get some "construction" shots.
This looks like a major upgrade.

I wonder if the street will have trees and shrubs planted down the middle like Finlayson does.
It doesn't look like it, most of the fancy "rain gardens" will be on the sides of the street.

That was Elizabeth May's office before a truck went through the front door on February 7th.
David Cubberly is now using the space. Perhaps he will have better luck.

Tattersall is all paved and lined and looks to be almost ready for opening.

That new stone wall on the corner has been demolished.
Tax dollars at work.

That new stone wall on the corner has been demolished. I guess the builders didn't realize new sidewalks were about to come through.
Tattersall is now open. The stone wall is still there, and it provide a walkway close to the building. There is another sidewalk between the stone wall and the roadway. There are dedicated bike lanes on each side of the road.
The old building of strange signage fame is empty.

I noticed a while ago that the railing in front of this building was destroyed by a car, meaning if it hadn't been installed following the last car crash, that poor little building would have been smashed yet again. Don't loiter on that corner.

Revisiting this mystery, So I decided to look through old directories.
Here is what I found. I cannot seem to be able to find the phone number listed. 7309 or 7309X1
But it does seem that it was Tel: E0001 at one time.
But I can confirm 100% that the sign says Quadra St. Boot and Shoe Repair Depot,
Just copy pasting here and a sorry - bit unorganized...
It changed names is appears to Saanich Shoe Repairing Depot.
Proprietor : Ted Hawkes who also seemed to own Saanich Realty.

This property and its two Quadra neighbours are slated for the wrecking ball if this rezoning for a multi-unit residential development are approved:

Sorry, I linked to a separate development across the street. Both sides of the street have simultaneous rezonings.

Ahh, yes, I've found it. The project is called Uptown East and covers three properties between 3572-3584 Quadra Street. 53 units (including 3 3-bedroom units) and 6 commercial spaces facing onto Quadra.
Site plans:

This corner of Quadra Street is really going to look and feel very different. If the three SFH homes just south of here were to be redeveloped with a mixed-used building, it would make for a continuous retail presence on Quadra between Tattersall and Cloverdale.

38 of the units are two-bedroom too, which is also great. I couldn't find if it these were rentals or condos.
