Mrs. Sparky just received a "friend request" from Lisa Helps.

if you're referring to twitter, she automatically re-follows you if you follow her.  I'm sure she has the same principle for Facebook too.  I'm sure this strategy was partly why she won the last election.

Still nothing, 3 days off.  And they have posted no local stories to their website from tonight's newscast.  CHEK posted 8 new stories to their website tonight.   And only 2 Facebook posts by CHEK today.

Well they just laid off a whole whack of people so maybe that's why.

I think you are correct about the election results. I think the friend request was on Facebook. She must know someone...who knows someone...who..

I don't think you can follow someone on facebook without being "friends" first, which seems silly.  So I think the friend request from Lisa to Mrs. Sparky was initiated purely by Mrs. Helps.

I do wish local politicians would set up their facebook pages to allow comments from people who aren't their "friends".  I don't want to be "friends" with Mr. Isitt in order to suggest where he puts his plastic bags.  Speaking of which, his facebook page appears to be gone from public view...

Politicians ought to have a personal Facebook account, then a "page" under which they do their civic or political business.  That's the proper way to do it.

Several people follow me on Facebook and we are not friends. I get to choose what those followers see. I, in turn, follow some people.  I am not interested in them seeing my feed.

Huh, ok.  I stand corrected.  Every time I've tried to click a "follow" button on facebook, a message pops up saying we need to be friends first :/

That's not really the way Facebook works for just your personal account.  You can "like" or as you say, follow Justin Beiber, but you are follwing his page, not his personal account.

You CAN follow someone on the their personal page and not be friends. I am currently looking at the personal profile of someone I follow and I am not friends with. This person I follow has about 2200 friends and 22,000 followers.

It has to be a public figure.  A "normal" account can only have 5,000 friends, and "following" is not an option, unless you choose to throw your account wide open to everyone.

When you follow someone, you'll see their posts in your News Feed. You automatically follow people who you're friends with. You can also follow the posts of people who've allowed Everybody to follow them, like journalists, celebrities, political figures and other people you’re interested in but aren't friends with.

in the settings portion:

Follower Settings
Who Can Follow Me
Followers see your posts in News Feed. Friends follow your posts by default, but you can also allow people who are not your friends to follow your posts. Use this setting to choose who can follow you.
Each time you post, you choose which audience you want to share with.

I am using a normal, personal account.

I also manage a couple of business pages and understand the difference.

Ya, I get it, but individuals don't normally use this setting, unless they are a public figure.

Still no updates on CTV VI Facebook page since Dec. 31st, and no new local articles on their webpage.

It was a good year for Facebook and for its CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The social networking giant reported a 123 percent increase in profit to $1.62 billion, thanks to a growing user base and a big upswing in mobile and video advertising across Facebook and Instagram.

Revenue increased 44 percent to $5.8 billion in the quarter, which easily surpassed analyst estimates. Facebook shares rose nearly three percent in after-hours trading on the NASDAQ. Mobile as a percentage of ad revenue rose to 80 percent, up from 20 percent three years ago, as Facebook users continued to migrate to phones and tablets.

Facebook as a company now consists of many different apps — Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger — as well as moonshot initiatives like Free Basics and Oculus, but the main revenue driver falls to the core product: Facebook itself.

It may seem like everyone is on Facebook already, but the social network found a way to grow with 1.59 billion global active users per month as of December, a 14 percent increase year-over-year. Facebook's daily active users on mobile now total to 934 million, on average, an increase of 25 percent. That statistic far surpasses Snapchat's 100 million mobile users, mostly confined to the U.S.

As I've been saying for years now at my seminars, FB is not going away.  Despite many doubters.

If you had bought stock at their IPO in 2012, you have almost tripled your investment.

I bought it after the IPO when they dipped. My regret now is selling half when they doubled....but that's just my policy.

Well, yes, you did good.  The IPO if I recall was around $36, then it dipped to $18 later that summer.  $109 today.

David Beck lives anonymously in Brentwood Bay—don't tell his millions of fans.

The TikTok star goes (mostly) unnoticed in his hometown, despite earning a living making hugely viral videos

For many, part of the appeal of being an influencer is likely the belief that they all make ludicrous amounts of money. A TikTok earnings estimator guessed that, with his large following, Beck makes a minimum of $4,620 per post. This places his minimum estimated annual earnings at well over $2.5 million. When read this figure over the phone, Beck immediately says that’s far from true.

“That’s complete bullshit… I’m not the Logan Paul of Canada,” he laughs. “There’s a discrepancy between what people think you make in what you actually make. People think ‘oh, seven million followers, you must be making hundreds of thousands of dollars’ or something. It's not like that. It's more humble than that.”

https://www.capitald...id-beck-profile

Beck explains that a TikToker’s earnings depend on what kind of content they’re making—not just how many views they get. The money he earns comes from a few different sources, including musicians who pay to have their songs featured in videos, brands who pay for their product to be shown on screen, and TikTok itself, which will pay for Beck to participate in campaigns or trends. He says he earns enough to save up and to live comfortably, but he doesn’t earn as lavishly as people assume.
