"Hey Chief is that the fire bell ringing?"
"Yeah just ignore it, we're right in the middle of the noon hour maternity mother's choir practice."

But think how much money could be saved if there was just one entrance for the truck bays and the residential parking.

So when Mike and I met with the Mayor last week, we did discuss the disposition of the old fire hall. And she suggested that it could be grouped with the City property adjacent (the Boys/Girls) and that there is no good reason to have that portion of Camosun there anymore, it could just be a pedestrian access through.

So in other words one big low income / low barrier complex? No need for a road if residents don’t have cars.So when Mike and I met with the Mayor last week, we did discuss the disposition of the old fire hall. I thought afterwards, we could nix this part of Ormond too, and have a 17-unit low-rise apartment there with small suites, foot access only to their doors facing the school field.

No, City sells the whole thing off, takes the best bid. Market housing. Where Camosun is now might be the entry to underground parking, in the back way off Johnson. Since the old house there still needs vehicle access (unless it is bought as part of the package).

Well I can say for certain that different people have been told different things. Will wait to see the outcome.

It would be absurd to redevelop the fire hall/B&G sites and not include that house.

Sure, we can continue along VHF's path of privatizing profit at the expense of the public by forcing anyone dropping kids off at Central or SJD to drive from Fernwood down to Cook St instead of turning around at Orrmond. Sweet.

YES! Privatize that profit.
That poor public, forced to drive an extra 1/2 block, that must be shitty at 145.9, imagine if it goes to 149.9.
When I was a kid, we walked or rode our bikes to school. From K-12, the total amount of times my parents picked me up at, or dropped me off at school? Zero.

While the rebar, concrete, steel and glass may have cost the city $35.9 million, the new building, which has been in use for a few weeks now, is already doing more than serving as the head office of the department, and storage facility for its gear.

Have we had a lot more fires since the hall opened, already paying dividends?

It's always a bit of a bummer when you improve emergency services but the emergencies themselves don't increase in frequency or otherwise worsen somewhat.

Dude, where's the fire? Be patient.

The article suggests the $35.9 million was a “meet the community” exercise.

Being located smack in the middle of a neighbourhood full of houses and apartments and right beside the Boys & Girls Club and across the street from Central School and a couple of blocks away from Vic High School was never an ideal situation re: community engagement.
