Had a great time there but by the time I was done I was more tanned than fully white.

My wristwatch and sunglasses were contrasting elements.

When Mike K. came up with the idea for the HB character I honestly wasn't sure that it would work out. But I stand corrected. He helps to guide the conversations in fresh & unexpected directions. Give the AI programmers their props.

Yeah, we really put a lot of effort into that.

I thought HB was just like part of the dream sequence, and when we wake up.. well, it was never real.

The scaffolding is coming down as they finish the flashing on the lower 6 floor boxes.

If present trends continue I'm going to have to retract my earlier fretting about this one. The upper part and the lower part look very different. The gloss on the upper part looks great.

I think the darker grey around the inset windows on the lower half sets it apart nicely from the top half.

Well, it's certainly going to be very white.

The windows are very big though, and it doesn't have massive bands of non-window cladding like the Atrium. The large windows on the top 6 floors combined with the grey cladding around the lower 7 floor windows may do enough to break up the white.

I think it would be cool if one of the floors was red or yellow.

The dark grey tiling around the lower six floor windows looks fabulous.

The shiny white cladding of the top 6 floors also looks really great.

At first I wasn't sure about the alternating window format on the upper floors, but the more that gets completed, the more I like it.  :)

The quality finishing of this building looks more Vancouver or Toronto than Victoria.

umm... there are red bricks showing in the bottom left of Jhicks' last photo.  They happen to be on the Rotheringham building, but still there.

Can we start a rumours thread that Rotheringham will be demolished and something functional and aesthetic put in its place.  Maybe that is just wishful thinking.  In any case, I hear that the owners are looking to redevelop or at least revamp the lower courtyard to take advantage of the new Jawl buildings.

A few ideas:

  • outdoor dining venue
  • winter skating rink
  • sculptural gallery (smaller version of this)

As for revamping the Rotherham building itself, opening up the ground floor to public use would help a lot. I am not entirely sure what that would be, but I can't be the only one who loathes ground floor office space in the downtown core.

I'm usually quite against demolishing functional buildings until empty lots or buildings in worse conditions are demolished,  but that neighbouring brick office building and it's huge concrete void space has got to go.  It has a large underground parkade and the building its self is probably solid, perhaps an extensive gutting could salvage it.

IIRC, the Rotherham building is actually owned by the Jawls as well.
