Saw a story on Surrey schools over at the Vancouver Sun, went to find news for Langford/Colwood, couldn't find anything in the news, then went to the source: http://www.newsroom....ew-schools.html

Guess this means a new thread! (mods, if there is another one, feel free to merge it). TC - this would be a good story to put on line.

...........drumroll.......

School District 62 (Sooke)
  • Two secondary schools:
  • a replacement for Belmont Secondary
  • a new secondary school in Royal Bay

From the Goldstream Gazette:

"To contribute to the project, SD 62 will sell the seven hectare Belmont property for an estimated $30 million, making the Ministry's net contribution $70 million. With the districts plan authorized, the education minister and SD 62 staff don't expect to engage in a formal public process to sell the property."

Why am I not surprised? As a taxpayer, this particular nugget doesn't pass my smell test!

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Belmont high school (referred to as Belmont at Glen Lake) will be held on June 27th with completion by September 2015.

The new school at Royal Bay, officially named Royal Bay Secondary, will be open in time for the 2015 school year.

No kidding, hey? Here's hoping children begin to recognize how important education is and find their new learning environments to be, well, conducive to learning.

http://www.cfax1070....le-is-done-deal

Belmont Secondary School, and the property on which its sits, have been sold.

                   ...

The buyer, as had been rumoured, is the Sobey's grocery chain.

I managed to get a few interior photos of the New Belmont High School on Glen Lake Rd today

The Gym is spectacular and has 4 basketball courts from what I could see. The hardwood floors are being laid now.

The school has a multi level mezzanine type of backbone. Similar to the Eaton Centre. From what I saw today there is no hope whatsoever that construction will be complete by September

Thanks...I had a good rest and vacation. If anyone has requests for photos from roof tops I have a few just name the area interested in. This Gym in Belmont is so nice and so big

Are you secretly a janitor by day who has all the keys to the roof tops?

The new Royal Bay and Belmont schools are not yet ready for students - old Belmont will be used for timetable pick-up and new registrations.

> > >  Attention Belmont & Royal Bay Students

We are all so excited to open the doors to two brand new state-of-the-art schools on September 8. The information below is for Belmont and Royal Bay secondary school students only.

In order to minimize disruption to crews and staff, the old Belmont school will be used for timetable pick-up and changes, as well as for new registrations.

Due to the amount of secondary students in Belmont and Royal Bay and in an effort to reduce wait times, the District has decided to stagger timetable changes and registration dates according to school.

Timetable changes and new registrations starting on August 25.
Date: August 25-28
Time: 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
