That must be convenient for Cascadia, their offices are just a few doors down on Fort St!

True.

81 unit mixed-use development approved at 1101 Fort Street
http://victoria.citi...01-fort-street/
Victoria councillors have given an enthusiastic thumps up to the second iteration of a formerly approved six-storey mixed-use condo and ground floor commercial development at Fort and Cook streets on the cusp of downtown Victoria.
To be built by Abstract Developments, the project at 1101 Fort Street has approvals for 81 residential units spread throughout five floors above a ground floor retail space totalling some 11,000 square feet. While the original proposal included 88 units, Abstract opted to lessen the number of smaller layouts and instead turned its focus towards a greater supply of two bedroom units. Despite the shift, a full assortment of studio, one and two bedroom offerings sized between some 500 and 1,600 square feet will be available as will two ground level live-work spaces accessible off Meares Street. Any guesses on how long a bike kitchen will stick around outside in downtown Vic?

Wow, this has been a long time coming. I remember seeing plans for the original design back when I worked in the building ~2010. Even then we wondered where Kilshaw's would go but it doesn't look like there's a space for them here.

Victorian Analysis remains Jaclyn's gig that is not associated with Citified, but is now also a contributor to Citified's news (has been for several months now).
I'm kinda liking the editor aspect of things and it's a big help to have Jaclyn cover the going-ons at City Hall while I focus on other things (like an update coming up for the Cook Street Village project and some breaking news regarding a downtown lot we'll all be happy to see redeveloped -- stay tuned! )

Never a fan of overhangs like that, but it's a nice design.

Wow, very nice. Infinitely better than the tired old sad sack structure that is there now. When is construction supposed to start?

Purely speculation but an interesting observation nonetheless. What's with the Martin Berasategui logo in the one rendering? Could a new high end restaurant be the "very exciting" anchor? This guy does operate the best restaurant in the world after all. Or are the Abstract boys just big fans?

http://www.timescolo...patio-1.2140882The Cook and Meares street corner will see significant changes. A ground-level cafe will likely go in at Cook and Meares Streets. Directly above that, there will be a 20-foot-tall patio that will serve as the common area for residents, Miller said. This two-storey area will feature a barbeque and a fire pit.
Instead of an open parking lot off Meares, Miller said he is adding a “ton more green space, which is like a little parklet.”
The developer is giving the city land for 10 new parking spots, intended to be similar to Broad Street parking.
“It’s going to create a bit of a community gathering area,” Miller said. “This will be a huge game changer for that corner.”
