TORONTO -- Daily commuter newspaper chain Metro Canada is expanding into six new cities as of April 2.

The free daily plans to begin offering print and digital editions in Saskatoon and Regina and digital-only versions in Hamilton, Kitchener, Windsor and Victoria...

...The newspaper, currently read by more than one million commuters each day, targets a core readership that it calls YAMS -- youthful, active metropolitans aged 18 to 49.

Torstar Corp. owns a 90 per cent stake in the Canadian Metro chain.

Wouldn't it make more sense to offer a print edition that serves both Saskatoon and Regina (combined population ~450,000) rather than separate papers?

And then to not only do that, but only offer digital editions in Hamilton (700,000 people), Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo (500,000 people) and Victoria (375,000 people)... seems odd to me.

Next thing you know they'll be handing out 8x11s in Toronto while they maintain a full print edition in Calgary. :P
(Not the owner of, nor am I associated with, the Blue Fox Café, in any way.)

It has Victoria as up, but I haven't seen any local news. There is a free app.

Why doesn't the TC have an app?

The reporter's name is Philip Campbell but I doubt it's the same guy that anchored at CHEK and moved back east.
"Beaver, ahoy!""The bridge is like a magnet, attracting both pedestrians and over 30,000 vehicles daily who enjoy the views of Victoria's harbour. The skyline may change, but "Big Blue" as some call it, will always be there."
-City of Victoria website, 2009
