#wastingmytaxdollars

Will of course be decided by people who likely couldn’t find it on a map and without consultation with anyone who actually lives there. I hope that at least pay $500 a head for the inconvenience for everyone in changing their address.

This is New West but thought it was crazy enough to mention.

I finally discovered it was named after an old Fraser River ferry, the K de K, or in full, the Knevett de Knevett.

Even if Trutch Street is renamed, I'm sure our family will still call it Trutch St. After forty something years it's ingrained. We're always saying, hey you know that place on Trutch St., or, we'll have to detour down Trutch St. etc.

Just think of all the Google map books and Apple road atlas maps that'll have to be reprinted!

So will it be Su’it Street or just Su’it?

The latter might cause some problems, no?

Well, both might cause problems, but presumably at least technically computes can handle the punctuation as they are used to Brady’s Lane.

Do people on Purdy’s Burn get extra questions? Oh it’s Purdy’s Burn Place.

In an act of reconciliation, Victoria street gets a new name

Victoria’s Trutch Street was renamed Su’it Street for the Lekwungen word for “truth” in a ceremony with the Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations and community members on Sunday.

Helps said it was “heartening and moving” to see many residents in attendance at the ceremony and for those neighbours still unsure about the change, “hopefully they were able to hear and see today the meaningfulness of this work to the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nation.”

City staff have been working with members of the Lekwungen cultural team to make local Indigenous identity more apparent throughout Victoria.

Another demonstration of the fact that Victoria mayor and council pander endlessly to UVIC eggheads whose sole idea only ever seems to be to waste Victoria taxpayers money woke-washing the COV.

I'd consider moving if my street name were changed to suet.

There were not "many" residents there. I walked by near the end of the block for a look-see. I'm not sure of the number, but it wasn't huge...thirty?

Suet?

It’s pronounced say-eat.

Suet? It’s pronounced say-eat.

Then maybe spell it that way. As long as it's written as "Su’it", sue-it shall it be pronounced by most everyone.

I apologize if "Su'it" is this historic Lekwungen spelling.
