The 8 units will be made available for rent, not sold as market condos. The unit sizes are between 1050 and 1700 square feet.

They've made some impressive progress over the last month.

Here's a view down Jutland. What a difference to have the hole plugged up with this building, hey?

bcIMC is the BC Investment Management Corporation. They run the Public Service Pension Plan, Municipal Pension Plan, Teacher's Pension Plan and the College Pension Plan.

Their headquarters is currently in the adjacent building (think above Glo, etc.) and I believe will expand into the one being built.

It looks like the rentals will be available on March 1, 2015.

Thank you for your continued interest in Boardwalk - 321 Waterfront Crescent, at the award-winning Selkirk Waterfront Community.  Since our last announcement in December 2013, construction is progressing well and we are on target for completion in early 2015 with occupancy expected March 1, 2015.

We have now finalized the rental rates and terms along with the interior finishings and floor plans and will be sending out a full and detailed Leasing Package to those who have completed the online Priority Registration Form. Many of you have already completed this form since our last email in December and you will receive this Leasing Package this week.

For those who have not contacted us in the past few months and wish to continue to receive more information including the full Leasing Package, please complete the brief Registration Form. This will be your final opportunity to receive more information from us.

We are excited to see this project coming together and the new opportunities this final phase will create. Thank you for your continued interest and support of the Selkirk Waterfront Community.

Yours truly,

JAWL DEVELOPMENTS LTD.

Karen Jawl

Isn't that the BC Pension Corporation which administers those pensions plans?

^ Good point for clarification. BC Pension Corporation administers the plan but the management of the investments/assets is done by bcIMC. Although these two areas could be performed by the same organization they have been separated:

The reasons for establishing bcIMC as an independently managed corporation were as follows:

  1. To place the investment agency at arms length from government and thereby avoid potential conflicts that can develop between government’s policy decisions and the management of public sector trust funds;
  2. To increase the ability of bcIMC’s clients to manage the agency and ensure that the corporation has the necessary resources and flexibility to meet the challenges of global fund management;
  3. To provide clients the advantages of a large public sector investment manager (e.g. increased diversification, economies of scale, and a cost-based fee system); and,
  4. To ensure a strong governance framework and proper accountability to bcIMC’s clients (e.g., pension trustees).

The Montessori School at Selkirk Waterfront will be undergoing a $1.6 million expansion.

VICTORIA – If you’ve been to the Gorge Waterway lately, you may have noticed a little extra hustle and bustle. Construction is underway at Selkirk Montessori School in order to move the library and provide a multi-purpose room.

Today, Selkirk Montessori accommodates upwards of 310 students from preschool to grade eight and employs more than 45 full and part time teachers and staff. A far cry from when they opened the doors of their current location in September 1998 – with just over 190 students and fewer than 20 teachers and staff.
The enrolment growth over the years has prompted the need for expansion. Construction will be funded through re-mortgaging of the property, with the expansion portion costing approximately $1.6 million.

The new 171 square metre (1840 square foot), two-storey addition will allow a shuffling of spaces. The current library space will be turned into a senior classroom, with the library moving to the first floor of the addition. The second floor of the addition will be home to a multi-purpose room which will feature the computer lab, general class space and a kitchen. Atop the second storey of the addition will be a play area for elementary and middle school aged children.

Construction began over spring break and the project is expected to take six to seven months in total. A renovation component to the project will be completed over the summer months. With the exception of the removal of the garden playground, there should be no disruption to school activities.
Penny Barner, Administrative Head, Selkirk Montessori School –

“We’re excited to have more space to accommodate our changing needs. The addition will give us more library and multi-purpose space and another rooftop play area. We’re grateful to our families, the Foundation, the City of Victoria and our neighbours for their support of this project. This new space will give us more room to inspire our children and help them to realize their full potential.”

Is this the first time a full size crane has been used at Selkirk? I seem to recall that the 6-storey office building at Gorge and Jutland was built using a mobile crane.

Lark did the Seniors building with a full size FM GRU crane as well

The lower walk bridge on the 2nd floor of 2940 is being connected to 2950 Jutland. Another walk bridge to come in a few months.
