I haven't been able to tell under all that scaffolding, but are those "box-shaped" balconies and windows taking form? Without them, this design it pretty bland. Also, I'll probably be called a hater for this, but I would have preferred to see the View Street section a couple of floors shorter and the density transferred to additional height on the Yates Street side.

Yes I have seen them start to build our the "boxing". It's more advanced on the View St side.

Now that I am on vacation for a month, I will have to take a longer perusal of this (and other) projects.

I noticed both the addition of the "boxes" and finished cladding on the lower floors of Yello's south facade today.I think it's going to look better than I had imagined.

Yes, I agree. It does not look nearly as wide or bulky as the renderings suggested.

Still, I wish we could have seen this more "Legato-ish" project in this location.

The other day I realized that Yello is basically the Wave rotated 90 degrees.

^Oh, I forgot that version. I called it the Sally Field.

Proposed by the guys who built the Burj Khalifa, no less!

But a larger, taller, and less glassy version.

Methinks the curved glassy tower was the big miss for this site.

When was that proposed and are renderings available?

There was a pic in the TC. Somebody posted it here (or somewhere, if not here).

Edit: found a pic of the model (from 2006), but not the rendering from the paper. I'm sure you've seen it on here before.

Wow! Why do we hate curves so much in our contemporary architecture?

Edit: seeing the above makes me sad  :(

Scaffolding is down off the first four floors on the View St side. I'll try to snap a pic on my way home from work (unless someone here beats me to it).

That's my photo of Fraser McColl's concept, version 0000002, I think. I wish they had gone with that one. The overall massing is superb, the only doubt I had was the podium. Wasn't it a parking podium? Maybe that's why it fizzled.

I think I have a higher resolution version somewhere. Stupid Photobucket broke all my links.

Here it is in the Emaar project thread (post #72). Scanned from the TC by gumgum...

Back in December, 2006 a younger and less curmudgeonly G-Man sure was a prophet about the 800-block of Yates:

I think a 18 storey Corazon type on the North end of the lot would be better...

Scaffolding is down off the first four three floors on the View St side. I'll try to snap a pic on my way home from work (unless someone here beats me to it).

First attempt to post a picture here. Seems to be quite a process. No way to upload directly?

To upload click the "attach photos" button next to the post button, then below the text box you'll see the little upload box.

It's very 1995-ish but a forum upgrade will solve that.
