At least CFAX is a private company. We're spoonfed the notion that the CRD is ultimately responsible to its shareholders, that being us, but of course we're ultimately are at the mercy of board members and not the other way around. We don't get to vote for these board members, we merely suggest nominees to our local governments during elections.

And speaking of Translink, Saanich Mayor Frank Leonard, chair of the transit board, says BC Transit should hand over transit planning and budgeting to the CRD.

Know it all.

I knew of someone who worked in IT for the government - he said that if any private business spent money like the government did, they'd be bankrupt before they opened the doors.

I get the feeling that there's very little accountability for projects like these.

I find it highly improbable that they didn't already do that.
Is this a good project? I have no idea.

You would be suprised what the public sector and large private sector companies do and don't do. More often than not projects like this have nothing to do with any real or perceived need but rather exist to protect an individual's role or position in an organization. If you are the Manager of Internet Platforms as an example, an 18 month project to overhaul your systems is pretty good job security. Whether they need overhauling or not is not likely a consideration.

That must be why sewage is still streaming into the ocean
so many years after it was to have been resolved immediately.
