Use your Q Card to chose what item you want on sale that day, sometimes even choosing an item that's on sale, you get it even cheaper if you choose it as your daily special

Yeah, they have a lot of little deals going on. The deal of the day has to be something that is not on sale.
Very nice store, I like the way it is laid out, the staff were very helpful as well.
Nice sandwiches in the bistro area with a nice sitting area.
Prices on sale items were pretty decent and we can finally get chicken drumettes again, everywhere else just has drumsticks.

Vancouver Island's Quality Foods chain sold to Jim Pattison
So long to locally owned and operated.

He likely made them a deal they could not refuse.

Undoubtedly. It's just a little sad to see QF succumbing to being just a subsidiary of another big chain.

He was already a part owner, no?
Correct.

Safeways all converted to Safe-Ons following Sobeys' purchase of the chain.

If Safeway had to sell its Victoria stores after being purchased by Sobeys, how is Pattison able to maintain control of Victoria's Quality Foods now that they and Save-Ons are the same company?

I'm not sure what triggers a look-see by the competition bureau. But you can be assured that the competitors will aim to trigger it if it applies.

Aww, that's sad news. I liked QFs deli counter.

Presumably QF will remain as such, but the buying power between them will definitely help with the profit margins.
So that leaves Loblaws, Costco, Fairways, Country Grocer, Sobeys and Walmart as competition.
My guess is Country Grocer and Fairways are the next take-over targets.

I do not think there is much profit margin in food stores. That probably means we have several stores in town that lose money every month, but they stay open just to keep market share.

So Jimmy bought QF because he needed a hobby?

He already owned a piece of it. Knowing the way he does business, for all we know he acquired it automatically in some fashion that his previous business agreement set out. ie. I buy in with $10M now. If in 5 years you do not hit XYZ sales target, then I take the rest over at ABC price. He's been known to do that type of a deal. A bit of a "I'll strangle you now, or we can talk about a possible strangle in 5 years. How would you like to proceed?"

Too bad I've always liked QF. Really wish we could get an IGA here. Love the one in Kitsilano. Great produce, seafood and deli, and reasonably priced.
