A fire overnight at a mixed-use, older building at the corner of Cook St. and Meares has displaced at least a dozen tenants from the upper floors suites.

Renters displaced by the fire have all received at least 5 days of hotel accommodation for themselves and their pets, plus gift cards for supplies, clothing.

From what organization?

Emergency Social Services, presumably; although ESS only offers 3 days of assistance.

British Columbians forced from their homes by fire, floods, earthquakes or other emergencies may receive emergency social services for up to 72 hours. Services may include food, lodging, clothing, emotional support, information about the crisis, and family reunification. There may also be special services like first aid, child minding, pet care and transportation...

No answer ??

Do you mean who pays for Emergency Social Services? If so, it's a BC Government agency and so all provincial taxpayers cover the cost.

The province pays ie: us taxpayers.  The victim I spoke to told me they had also manipulated it slightly to actually give them 5 nights in a hotel.  Sandman is taking some.

What the heck is "Cancer Free Dry Cleaning"? Do they cure my cancer? Or do none of them have cancer? If you have cancer do you get free dry cleaning? Do you have to be cancer free to have them do your dry cleaning?

If you take your dry cleaning there, you will not get cancer (from the cleaning).  I talked to the guy once, he's quite fanciful.

Good dry cleaning, though. They did an amazing job on my duvet after two newly acquired kittens used it as a litterbox.

Some sort of incident at the Pandora McDonalds tonight; fire department was attending to a shaken employee and the store had been cleared of customers. Don't know what happened.

I am told that this little crapshack is being renovated after the asbestos is removed.

Seems like a waste of good money.

Fire crew on scene at Red Lion/V Lounge. Don't know if it's a fire or just the boss getting stabby again.

Fire is out now, not sure extent of damage.  Crews are checking water damage before they fire power back up.

UPDATE: Due to an electrical spark from some welding being done, decorations at the V-Lounge caught on fire and the Red Lion Hotel had to be evacuated. The situation was resolved and the hotel, chinese restaurant, and liquor store are all open for business... The Fox is closed due to minor water damage but hopes to re-open on Saturday. The V-Lounge suffered minor fire damage, plus moderate smoke and water damage and is expected to be closed for 2 weeks.

It was coming due, the last fire was away back in 2001
