Looks great! Is there anyone here on VV who grew up in Victoria as a kid who did_not spend countless hours crawling up, on, over and under these Gyro Park mainstays? I have fond memories of my mom (usually, dad not being a beach goer) taking me and my friends to Caddy Bay where as a kid I probably spend hundreds of hours in rapt fascination of "Caddy", Octopus and for me especially the Salmon was a particular challenge as you'd try to work your way over the dorsal fin towards the mouth without falling off....:D. Nice to see the park is being maintained for future generations of tykes....

Somewhat bizarrely, Saanich has roped off Gyro park again, and are redoing the whole playground.  Seems the repaint could have waited until they did this. The Octopus and Salmon are being moved, the ship getting a refurb, new swings being put in (despite the ones that are there being the best in town) and a zip line is being put in.  Hopefully they raise the whole thing by 3' or so, to prevent the lake that the playground becomes 6 months of the year (though I suppose my three year old thinks the lake is pretty fun too).

You are wrong they are not the best swings in town. The best in town are at Kinsmen Gorge Park.  :judge:

We'll have to try those out.  I should have qualified, Gyro are the best in my limited experience....

Doesn't sound like it - they say late summer/early fall.

Just in time for the busy winter park season

It's easy to snipe from the sidelines, but you'd think that they'd try and arrange the facelift so that the facility is ready to go in the busy time of the year, no?

Yes, you would certainly hope so.

Yet, the playground is blocked off all summer.

To be fair, this playground is a complete swamp all winter, so perhaps it is not possible to work on it in those conditions.  I think they are also going to move some of the equipment temporarily outside of the fence so there will be some things to play on.  But right now everything except for the Cadborosaurus is fenced off.

I assume, or am at least hopeful, that the "boat" will be re-built.

The playground has been in dire need of an upgrade for years. Most of the year it's flooded and the pirate ship was in crappy shape.
