Tacofino brings famous food-truck fare to Victoria

Times Colonist:

A Tacofino food truck is setting up at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre parking lot this week. Tacofino Blue Victoria will be dishing out lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and plans to add dinner in early summer, the company said Monday. The truck is available for catering and special events.

If Tacofino replicates its success in Tofino and downtown Vancouver, the company may open a Victoria location. Tacofino fans praise a menu that includes Baja-style fish tacos at $5 and spicy braised pork burritos at $10.

I'm guessing the "blue" relates to the police department.

Ah, I get it. The "blue" refers to the colour of the truck. Their other truck in Tofino is orange.

In addition to their mobile food truck?

Wow, that'll be five Mexican/Central American food places in what is basically a two block radius (Hernande'z, Tacofino, La Taquisa, La Fogata and La Fiesta).

Best news of my life (or at least today). Tacofino + Meat & Bread within a short walk of work? Lunch will be amazing every single day.

It's good, it's busy, it's a welcome addition to town!

I wonder if we will see more food trucks turned brick and mortar businesses.

with a buxxshxt policy on food trucks and where they can park and owners not willing to provide them with a permanent parking spot on their land, it is VERY hard for them to find somewhere to compete with bricks and mortar. saying that, brick and mortar operators face many more regulations that trucks do not which creates an unfair advantage.

And that there is the problem.

But not to worry, Rocket Residences in the old Dominion Hotel will have several food truck parking spots. I wonder how Foo feels about that, though.

it is my understanding that they are renewing their relationship with the current owners.

I think Foo will only benefit from even more life in that spot, until the owners push them out by raising the rent now that their seed has grown into a solid tree...

I couldn't agree more that the city (aside from the couple day food truck festival once a year) has done very little to help food trucks, we now have two success stories. La Taquisa now has two great locations in Vic and Tacofino's storefront is very busy.

Some foodtrucks, by some combination of the nature of their offerings, desires of their owners along with their business acumen will never become more than a truck and that's fine. I like the diversity of offerings this town is getting.

At least three success stories... Noodle Box started from a cart by Capital Iron

You can make that 4 by adding Puerta Vallarta Amigos - it is not in a stand alone kiosk in Uptown Shopping Centre.

Let's not forget the OG caffe fantastico which was a coffee cart in the inner harbour 15+ years ago.
