Offering help when it is not needed makes us feel good but doesn't really help. Help doesn't have to enable if it is offered in a clear concise way ie if you do this then we will do that. In this instance most of the surrounding communities enjoy capital status and all that that means with little effort. It is clear those at the helm of Victoria have also over estimated their skill sets and have to date been unable to meet the challenges presented them. It is in the best interest of the region that Victoria thrives, regardless of your politcal leaning or who is mayor.

To paraphrase the words of a beloved local mayor, perhaps I'll just read a book instead.

lots of smart people listen and you can listen and do something else at the same time. Kind of like building a bridge and generating taxes to pay for the bridge at the same time

- So it's just a G&E show
- There is NO good place for a tent city...but the consensus seems to be that UVic has offered an invitation of sorts...

I wouldn't even know where to find the LG&E show*, so I can offer no commentary on its contents.
As for tent cities being the new reality - I think that is pure BS. We have failed entirely as a society if we can't come up with better solutions to the issues underlying homelessness than simply letting people set up mass, unregulated camps within our existing urban environment. What some might have to accept is that these solutions won't necessarily placate the PC police.

Good Morning Vibrant Victorians,
This week we have Keith Jones of R.Keith Jones & Associates join us to discuss his work across Canada helping communities achieve their goals. Gathering stakeholders and helping them find a common path to success seems like it would be easy, but hey lots of communities have stakeholders who say they want unity, but seem to do everything to work against it. Enjoy the show and we love your comments. http://29erradio.com...es-facilitator/

you can find it on iTunes or follow the links at www.29erradio.com
the underlying issue is that people are dysfunctional and that can lead to an inability to behave in a way society has deemed "normal". Tent city is a result of taking a simple solution "let them camp there" rather than facing up to our short comings and inability to be brave in the face of adversity.

This week as always the gang has a heated discussion about wasted tax payer money. Why do
the staff and politicians seem to focus on job creation for civil servants and not saving
tax payer money. How many times have we heard a councillor or mayor say it is far cheaper
to house low income and homeless, yet we get tent city instead. Enjoy the show.

Why does a certain municipal council spend taxpayers' time and money arguing the merits or lack thereof on matters such as visiting nuclear submarines and GMO foods, when significantly higher priority projects (infrastructure for example) are left to flounder.

I agree completely and think it is more about shiny keys for the electorate. It is, as always,Why does a certain municipal council spend taxpayers' time and money arguing the merits or lack thereof on matters such as visiting nuclear submarines and GMO foods, when significantly higher priority projects (infrastructure for example) are left to flounder.
our responsibility as voters to hold our representatives feet to the fire and demand they focus
on big picture, on the ground issues

We never voted for the myriad of projects now coming down the pipes. We never sanctioned certain activities to occur, and yet we're powerless to do anything about them because those in office feel they have full support of the electorate by virtue of being elected.
Btw, were most of you aware that municipal terms started out as a one year stint? Then they were expanded to two, then to three, now they're at four and pretty soon they'll be at five.
