Do they install the climbing walls proud of those concrete walls? Those vent shafts seem to be funny.
I think so...IIRC from the old CragX, the handholds are placed on 4x8 plywood which is attached to a frame..

They're raised their prices over 30% with this new building and have lost a customer in me for the time being. Most people at crag x don't seem to be the highest income earners to begin with (lots of students, young people, etc.), so it will be interesting to see how they fare, especially with new competition in the new UVic climbing wall.
The new place looks a lot nicer, but I thought they would cover the higher costs with more climbers not large price increases. When you consider they really only have staff manning the front desk and there is no cost to deliver the product (unlike yoga instructors for example), volume increases make the most financial sense.

Hmm. Maybe construction overruns have pushed them into higher price territory.
It's hard for any business to compete with government/tax payer subsidized anything, especially in a market as expensive as Victoria. No doubt they'll be paying a massive swath of tax for their new digs.

Before and After
When they tore down the pink building a vault a few inches under the sidewalk became exposed.

Likely for sidewalk prisms once upon a time (brought light into the basement)

Those vaults are located underneath many many sidewalks in this city. There were still metal doors there that were covered by the sidewalk. Deliveiries were made there. The doors would open and an elevated platform woudl rise up to teh sidewalk level where deliveries or supplies would be placed onto teh platform and lowered into tehebasement.
The ones with the prisms were an added feature to bring light in but they also had the elevated platforms as well. I have recently seen one on Yates Street being used.
As you can see in the picture the vault is not part of teh basement and any light coming in woudl only ligten under teh sidewalk.
It was easier to bring deliveries in this way instead of through front doors and down sets of stairs

Crag X is open! And what a beautiful space they have created. I went in for a quick session at lunch today and just about had the place to myself. I believe it is rather busier in the evening.

Let's see if this works better from the 'puter.
This is the equally cool second floor, with more bouldering and walls. There is a mini-elevator (presumably for disabled access) to get up here as well as stairs.
Where is this?

Right downtown, on Pandora St between Douglas & Blanshard. If you're asking about the second story of the gym, it's pretty hard to miss once you're inside.Where is this?

Is there an intention to finish painting the concrete on the outside of this building? It still looks half-finished to me.
