^ No surprise as he has been blogging about this for months and of course no benefit from his previous role and strict enforcement of pot policies!

It is going to be really interesting to see how the Feds handle regulation and taxation. This is about the tenth reference now I have seen to FN from pot companies and the primary driver behind that would have to be taxation (or lack thereof) as I have discussed before. You would have to think that the feds will need to enforce some type of packaging and labelling as they do with cigarettes to try and control distribution, or else set the tax rate so low that the benefit to non-licensed producers is muted.

Ya, I'm starting to wonder how they will do this.  If I can produce it at home fairly cheaply, and there is no danger to me in being arrested for carrying it around, I'm not sure why amateur growers and dealers would not thrive, if the taxes are high.  It's a lot easier to produce, transport and sell than say alcohol.

What's the ideal outdoor growing conditions for the stuff?  I mean, it seems dumb that we are growing it inside buildings now.  We do not do that with other crops.  Would the Okanagan be the right place for it, to grow outdoors?

The price per volume or weight is much smaller.  You'd need a very large truck to cart around the same dollar value of alcohol as pot.

How so?

For me to make my own single malt whiskey, I'd need a good supply of Scotland water, peat, mash, copper kettles and piping, oak barrels and 15 plus years.  Thus, I'll pay a premium for the product.

To grow your own pot, you need a pot and some dirt and some seeds.  If you want to get fancy, a light, tinfoil and a closet?

I think that you can grow it pretty much anywhere. The benefit to being outdoors is that apparently the yield is about 4x higher per plant.

I am concerned with the number of people with deep political ties lining up behind the pot bandwagon. All we need are a few nice little loopholes that benefit the few and the billion dollar taxpayer windfall will quickly evaporate into the hands of the connected few while the taxpayer will be left with the bill for the social costs.

Invitation-only consumption place.  Run by the Trees Dispensary folks.  It's in the same building as the in-call escort agency on Douglas St.  (A friend told me)

It's not invite only, used to have a cover charge, not even that anymore. Just need proof of 19+. Go on in, drink some thc drinks, smokes some dabs and shatter and whatever else it's called now, just belly up to the bar. Till 2 am!

It's Leaf Compassion that runs these. It's crazy! And I'm 100% pro- recreational weed!

What might be interesting is to see how business reacts to this.  Surely 420-friendly accomodations will win.  "Hey, come to Canada, and smoke pot at our luxury cabin."

Pot tourism is already a reality in Victoria. I have met several people travelling to Victoria over the past couple of years because of pot being 'legal' here. I even have a few tourism suggestions:

Free bong bus travelling from Ogden point to select pot shops downtown to service the cruise crowd

'Hops' on 'hops' off double decker bus where you could smoke your weed in the open air. Best part is that people would take the trip over and over again as they would keep forgetting the sites

Bike to bake tours where you could get some exercise before you mellow out

Can't wait for Airbnb to open up experiences to Victoria!

From the CBC. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/quebec-first-nations-marijuana-legalization-2017-1.4092056

Businesses have approached Indigenous communities in the province in the hopes of setting up pot-production operations, attracted by the tax-free status on reserves.

There has been some interesting recent case law in BC on the definition of reserve and the application of Provincial and Federal law. Since most BC bands never had treaties negotiated and still lay claim to most of the crown land in the Province, there have been cases where 'reserve' treatment has been applied to fee simple properties owned by FN bands.

Committee members have recommended that the CRD board endorse bylaw amendments that will enable enforcement officers to issue $100 to $500 tickets for Clean Air Bylaw infractions.  Further bylaw changes this year to harmonize CRD regulations and provincial regulations on vaping and to include vaping and smoking cannabis in the bylaw.

Marijuana smoke contains 33 of the same carcinogens that are in tobacco smoke.

REJECTED.  The application for the very bottom of Yates has been rejected.  Not sent to public hearing.  Too close to the other one down there that was already approved.
