OK I may have gotten that wrong. Maybe it was the Tasty Spot.
It was right across from Hamsterly Beach at Elk Lake Where that flat iron building is now.
It was a drive-in worthy of American Graffiti. Cars, girls, music, more girls, and hamburgers.
Priceless

The BA station was right across the road from Cunninghams on the same side of Pat Bay. Is it a Gulf station now?
Owned by the Neufeld family. They had a tow truck.
One night they had a call from the Saanich police to attend an accident by the Black Swan at Elk Lake. The dad arrived at the scene with the tow truck to haul away the cars only to find out that his son died in the accident in one of the cars.
He sold the gas station shortly thereafter.

60's Roadtrip
Pretend you were with me in the 60's with my newly acquired driver's licence.
Jump in. Don't bother to buckle up...there were no seat belts.
I am going to take you from the Town and Country Shopping centre (now Uptown before T&C it was the Saanich municipal yard) out to Sidney.
At 1:05 you go past the Black Swan convenience store at Elk Lake ( they had the best pinball machine there)
At 1:13 you go past the Tasty Spot at Hamsterly Beach (they had the best girls there)
At 1:16 you go past Cunninghams Shell gas station (they had gas there)
At 1:17 you go past Neufeld's BA gas station (more gas)

....the family would spend the entire year collecting and selling horse **** in bags in front of their house...
With this endeavour on their resume, it's a wonder none of the family went into politics.

More than 50 years later and much of the trip is still so familiar.
