So the crane is up, but only goes to about 5 stories at the most ... is this one of those cranes that self builds as the building goes up around it?

That's right, it's a rising crane.

The legato rendering reminds me of 0ne of the renderings of the Mozart House which was going to be built where the Era is now
If that is the building I am thinking of, I totally agree.

I believe Mozart was designed by CEI, no?

And after that he was born at Getreidegasse 9, Salzburg

At first I thought progress on Legato had gone backwards, then I realized these are actually shots of 989 Johnson!

A month or so back I asked in this thread how Legato and the McCall site would handle excavation near their common border as Legato was still well below grade. HB later advised of what seemed to be a logical plan. However, I'm not sure things are working out so smoothly in real life. Picture from this morning where you can see McCall collapsed a small portion of the retaining wall on the Legato site. Crazy thing was you can see they were still excavating on the McCall site - perhaps out of necessity to clean up their side after the small collapse?
Anyways they worked like crazy all day to build up that wall at the back, as you can see in this pic at the end of the day.
I also find this sites safety procedures lacking in terms of traffic and pedestrian management. Just another example today. I actually stopped as the crane swung that bucket of concrete from the truck across the sidewalk to the site.. there is an overhead cover they are building, but there is a big gap, and that crane swung the bucket directly overhead. They had a sign guy there but he was preoccupied with the concrete truck. At other sites I've walked by they always stop pedestrian traffic if something is being lifted directly overhead without a covered walkway.
