Yeah but you could say that about any candidate passionate about any issue. At least with the pro-amalg candidates it's a definitive statement regardless of whether or not the candidate gets elected.

Natalia, who doesn't live in Colwood but is running there as a pro am candidate, has been doing a lot of door knocking and says she is getting a positive response.

Further to my comment above, as some one who wants to move forward with the amalgamation issue, and who has always taken a "run where you live" position, I realized that these two positions do not align. So while it's useful to know where the candidate lives, it's their skill set and platform that I'll be looking at.

Actually those positions perfectly align. Once we have at least some amalgamation I will have no issue with people who currently reside in adjoining municipalities running for the larger city of Victoria (since, let's face it, that's the name that would get used). As it stands, IMO, if you don't have a vested interest in one of the existing municipalities (resident or business-property owner) you have no say in the governance of that municipality.

...and further to that, if that is a problem for your political aspirations, push the amalgamation agenda!

Thornton-Joe and Alto should be screaming amalgamation at every opportunity. Chong should be as well.

Now that you've got that off your chest, let's wait for the election results and take it from there.

Thank you for that rousing endorsement of open discussion during the election period.  Certainly helps SOME people to have an uninformed electorate.

Not sure where you are getting short timelines from.....if the results of the referendum are in favor of a study then it may be another 4 years before a binding referendum would take place.....

Also this tiny but vocal minority....not sure where you get that from ....yes a small group of individuals invested the time to promote an idea but .....every non scientific poll performed by the media etc always seems to obtain similar results in the 80+% range in favor of something different than what we have currently.....so lets have a non-binding referendum and see what the people say....that's democracy

The short timeline is the period between when campaigning begins and when the voting takes place.  Given the dearth of information, as opposed to skewed promotional pap, available to the average voter the possibility of obtaining a valid answer to the amateurish and highly subjective quetion(s) being posed is near zero.

Not sure where I get the tiny but vocal minority?  Where do you live?  How many members does AY have?  How many signatures have they collected in two years of trying?  Hint, the number is so low they won't make it public, whether out of fear of embarrassment or the admission of futility I can't say.  Bought and paid for arm of downtown Victoria business interests.  And note that there is nothing wrong with that as long as you don't try to cast yourself as a graas-roots citizens movement defending a warped perspective on representative democracy.

Wesley Kennedy will be the pro-amalgamation candidate in View Royal.

Natalia Nebedynski will be the pro-amalgamation candidate in Colwood.

Purely for the sake of accuracy it is actually Natalia Lebedynski, who happens to be our next door neighbor. Since "we" live astride the Esquimalt-Saanich border it will be interesting to see how she fares running in Colwood of all places.
