All units in the six-storey podium have lost their balconies, is that what you mean?

That could be an issue if you bought and your contract says you have a balcony.

The developer confirms four one-bedroom units have been altered to remove Juliet balconies, and the buyers have been notified. There are no other changes to any other layouts within the podium or the towers.

This is one seriously DEEP excavation...

I'll speculate that the eastern tower's core foundation will be located in that deep area with the newly poured bedrock seal.

I'd say you are right, especially since footings (and some wall sections) are finally being poured nearby, suggesting that most of the excavation in this section is now complete.

What's with the area they didn't dig out behind Atlas?

I keep wondering that myself. Presumably there needs to be some surface excavation there even if this section isn't going to have any underground parking.

I've got a piece coming down the pipes covering that very question! I just have to get a few more pieces of the puzzle together.

Cox Developments also plans to start construction on the 10-storey, 37-unit 1088 Johnson Street phase of the 1075 Pandora purpose-built rental development.

989 condo development celebrates sales milestone as construction begins

http://victoria.citi...ruction-begins/

“We’ve officially sold over one hundred condominiums since our sales launch in March,” says developer Dan Cox of Cox Developments.

Cox's 206-unit, 15 and 17-storey 989 Johnson mixed-use condominium and ground floor commercial development reached the milestone this month following a steady pace of sales to a segment of buyers increasingly overlooked by downtown Victoria’s high density real-estate offerings.

Attributing the project’s sales success to larger units, high-end finishings and the all-important parking stall, Cox says his decision to buck the trend of smaller urban homes and investor-focused layouts filled a gap that had quietly widened with the industry's penchant for purpose-built rental buildings and smaller condominium residences geared towards the eventual rental market.

“We consciously made an effort to attract the end-user buyer to 989. These are the folks paying attention to the physical layouts and efficiency of every room, and they’re far more particular about the orientation of their unit and the views it offers,” Cox said, adding that the decision to include a parking stall with each residence became a significant competitive advantage in a market known to retain parking capacity for mid-range and top-end inventory. Thanks for the update Mike.

I know that other downtown projects currently for sale are definitely targeting the "end user" (Yates on Yates seems to be in this category- at least on the Yates-facing side) but I think that Cox has been able to offer a lower price point than some of the competition.  It definitely seems like the building may be more competitively priced than Black and White, though that building is technically in Fairfield.
